www.hardcoregaming101.net/disneynes/disneynes.htmAh, the days when licensed games didn't suck! Well, that's not ENTIRELY right, because there was a lot of dreck back in the NES days. But some companies were smart enough to hand the licenses over to competent Japanese teams instead of fly-by-night European operations. Capcom had the Disney licensed throughout the era, and here's a look at all of their games! This also includes a look at some of the beta differences, their Gameboy ports (which sometimes have rearranged levels), and even some of the non-Capcom renditions of these properties, including the DuckTales PC game, and the terrible Darkwing Duck and Talespin TG-16 games.

AWESOME article. I didn't even know it was in the making, but I'm glad. Any chance of adding the few SNES Capcom Disney games? I would love to read an Aladdin & Magical Quest Mickey Mouse article.

I have memories of playing Rescue Ranger with my brother when I was young. Good times.
You left out Capcom's Roger Rabbit game for the Game Boy, which was one of Shinji Mikami's earlier works. He also did Goof's Troop and Aladdin for the SNES. Any chance of doing a second part with Capcom's SNES Disney games?

DuckTales: The Quest for Gold - I used to play this all the time when I was a kid! I am not kidding when I say that the cave levels used to scare the hell out of me, and I'd still rather not play them now. For those that haven't played it - your goal is to get to the treasure in the cave, but there's also a mummy in there too, and you can see him on the minimap getting closer...and closer... every step you take. There's also this green slime on the cave walls when he's nearby too, and the whole thing is pretty atmospheric when you're young.

Ack! I didn't realize there was a GB only Capcom game. I'll get on that one.
...Boy, this article's been a monster. Seems like there's always more to add.
As for the SNES games...maybe. I really need a break from Disney right now. Rather focus on Evo: The Search For Eden.

I'm kind of in a hurry, so I'll give a quick post now, but some things that I noticed about the article:
- You have a "LIST LEVELS HERE" still in the Ducktales 2 section.
- From the beginning of the Chip and Dale 2 section: "The final Disney game released on the NES is better far and wide when compared to those released since 1991. Considering how long the SNES had been available, it's strange that the sequel to the original Chip 'n Dale didn't make the jump into the next gaming generation." This doesn't really make sense to me- are you trying to say that the Disney games got markedly better after 1991? That Chip and Dale 2 is the last Disney game released on the NES? I don't get it.
- "The platforms in the warf level had spikes on them in the beta, and you could also hang on them." Is this correct? It sounds kind of strange that you could hang on to a spiked platform, but then again, maybe that's why it was changed.
- There doesn't seem to be any explanation given of the second 'beta VS Final' screenshot in the Darkwing Duck section; this is kinda wierd given that it appears to represent a pretty massive change in how an entire section of the game looks (Is that one of tho bonus stages or a regular stage?).
- Also, "Wharf"
I'll give a more thourough read-through later with more comments.
- HC

Haha. Darkwing Duck reminds me of a very interesting story regarding Capcom in South America. As anybody who grew up there knows, NES carts were extremely expensive and therefore not easy to come by. Instead we had Famicom clones that played bootleg carts. Back in Argentina, Darkwing Duck was never really introduced as such. Instead, the bootleg copy of the game we all played had Darkwing's head removed and replaced by Megaman's; and was sold as Megaman 5 (right when Megaman 4 was the latest in the series). The funny thing is when the original Megaman 5 finally hit the streets, its bootleg copy had to be renamed Megaman "6". And yes, the original sixth installment was renamed "7". So yeah, no Darkwing Duck and Megaman +1 titles... Ugh. At least they were cheap.
Edit Bonus: There was also a bootleg of NES's "The Flintstones" known as "Super Mario Bros. 4". Complete with Fred's head replaced by Mario's.

Here's a complete game list of Disney-based games and their release dates in the North America region. For some strange reason, Nintendo's list claims that Duck Tales for the GB was published by THQ, Little Mermaid and Duck Tales 2 for GB was published by themselves, and that Goof's Troop and Aladdin was published by Majesco, so there's probably some goof-ups in the list (no pun intended). There was also a third Mickey Mouse game by Capcom which came out only in Japan.
NES Mickey Mousecapades (Capcom, October 1988) Duck Tales (Capcom, September 1989) Adventures in the Magic Kingdom (Capcom, June 1990) Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers (Capcom, June 1990) Little Mermaid, The (Capcom, July 1991) Tale Spin (Capcom, December 1991) Darkwing Duck (Capcom, June 1992) Duck Tales II (Capcom, June 1993) Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers 2 (Capcom, January 1994)
Game Boy DuckTales (THQ, November 1990) Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Capcom, November 1991) Tale Spin (Capcom, December 1992) Darkwing Duck (Capcom, February 1993) Little Mermaid, The (Nintendo, February 1993) DuckTales 2 (Nintendo, November 1993)
SNES Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse, The (Capcom, December 1992) Disney's Goof Troop (Majesco, July 1993) Disney's Aladdin (Majesco, November 1993) Bonkers (Capcom, October 1994) Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey and Minnie, The (Capcom, October 1994)

jonny2x4, I believe that's because those games were re-released by those companies late in the GB's life. Or maybe it was Sunsoft that re released them? I know for sure I have a GB Darkwing duck that doesn't say Capcom.

The original goal of the article was to be focused only on the NES era NES games. Also, yes, you CAN hang on the spiked platform vs the rock one. It was a glitch, I'm guessing. Also, the screenshot mentioned is actually a bonus stage. I should specify the changes from the bonus stage appearances.
Thanks for the comments!
