That seems like a shmup? Are there rail shooter parts? Philosoma was everything shmup related and it changed multiple times in each stage. Rail shooter, side scroller, top down, bottom up, isometric, you name it. It did not fuck around.

Unreal has some "Space Harrier" style levels.
Should "lightgun" games that don't use lightguns be listed? Like "Die Hard 2" ? Or you must see the actual player character for it to count?

No, it's not lightgun games that don't use a lightgun. It's more a certain kind of gameplay. You see the gameplay is very different when you have an avatar that is stuck to certain rail and has to dodge the bullets and stuff. That's where the rail shooter differs, from the lightgun shooter or the shooting gallery. Resident Evil UC for starters (someone mentioned it) didn't have an official lightgun, but it has lightgun shooter gameplay, not rail shooter. Killer 7 also doesn't fit (more of some weird ass adventure game with a battle system where you use your guns). I remember some xbox game with a red mecha, I beleive that's a rail shooter too no? Anyone know the name? And what about that sega game?

Dead Connection and Robotron would fit under "fixed arena" then?
The Sega game could be Dead Angle.

Dead Connection is more of an arena shooter, your stuck in an arena and shoot every enemy you can find. I think the same is applied for Robotron (never played that game, but if it's the same as Smash TV). Dead Angle wasn't the game, but it seems like a rail shooter a la dynamite duke. Have to search up more info.

Sidescrolling: Section-Z(nes)- it plays like a contra like shooter but screen is constantly moving right( character running) but you are free to move him left or right within the screen, also by holding jump he turns into a jet( Idon't know why) and the screen scrolls faster.
Sunset riders: the two horse stages.

You mean Formation Z, and that's a shoot 'em up.
