www.hardcoregaming101.net/dinosaur/dinosaur.htmAnother old Falcom RPG. Decent music as usual. This is a first draft, to be perfectly honest I've never actually played a Wizardry game, which I probably should before I make any real comparisons. (Can anyone fill in the blanks on what it's about?) I'd love to figure out the actual story, it seems interesting even though it doesn't seem to play a huge role in the story. MP3s are up, as are the disk images for the PC98 version. I might upload the intro movie/screenshots to Dinosaur Resurrection too.

I tried playing Wizardry 6 for the Amiga, but the interface put me off so much that I couldn't really get the hang of it. (And the fact that your party takes damage if you accidentally bump into the walls...at that point, I actually decided to kill my entire party by running into walls several times.)

Nice article. There's about all I'm interested to know about this game. Doesn't look like my type of game at all, though the PC remake looks pretty nice graphically. By the way, I'm not sure if you're interested, but here's a high-res picture of characters used in the PC98 cover: Click!

Here's my rough translation of the small bit of background info on Falcom's site:
Ash- the legendary mercenary who is said to return from any battle alive while his allies are defeated. But in this age of peace there is no battlefield for him. Yearning for conflict he is seemingly guided by a white butterfly to Zamhan.... a crawling world, in which tragedy gives birth to madness and disorder in the space between life and death, and endless resentment can become the irrelevant words of a distant age. All it can offer is chaos, and then destruction.

Kind of reminds me of Arcana for the SNES- 3D dungeon crawler with the use of cards for allies & enemies (though I think that one was made by Hal and not Falcom).

I'm really curious as to why he keeps seeing ghosts (especially of some girl) and there's constantly butterflies leading you to places.

Post away and I'll try to make sense of things.

OK there's very little context to this scene. Just some people fighting on a battle field, then this dead guy on the ground. (Dunno if he was an opponent or what the deal was.) Says something about his cursed fate, I think? I can't read the bottom line though. After this, then all of these ghosts or something float around and call him "Shinigami Ash". Anyway after you enter town, you talk to the mayor, and this is what he says: Uties, by the way, are some kind of lizard bad guys. EDIT: The intro to Dinosaur Resurrection is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHnA0h93Zds

There isn't anything too illuminating, but here you go: (1) Ash... you've involved us... in that accursed fate of yours. (2) I've been waiting, master Ash! You do look quite confused, quite so... Well, I wonder if you've taken a look at the castle rising above the hill... (3) That castle is the castle of the King of Zamhan... Castle Arcadia. That castle- no, those within that castle- summoned you to this land. (4) The town gate leads to the castle... it sends out those who have been invited. I'll open the gate for you and break the silence that has swept across this area for so long. Please observe the situation yourself. (5) This may just be the selfish thoughts of an old man but I want to see you safe, so please visit me if you should ever return to this town. (6) There are great numbers of suspicious creatures within the woods, and it seems there are monsters called Uties that attack people. Please be careful. Nothing as cool as the little blurb that Falcom has up on their site for the remake.

Yeah, you're right. Oh well, it clarifies a little bit. That's about as story intensive as the game has been so far, other than some of the small cinema scenes. Thanks again! I'll definitely be adding this before I officially post it.

Let me know if there's anything else you want me to look at. Maybe there's something more interesting later in the game? Maybe the ending?

Haven't even come close to beating it (there's a lot of running around and backtracking...I should probably update the article to mention that.) One of the sites I linked with the walkthrough has the complete script. Oddly enough, it displayed fine on my browser than I had my computer set to English, but most of it is gibberish when I set it to Japanese so I could actually read the text in Dinosaur Resurrection.

So....Why exactly is it called Dinosaur?

Wasn't the last boss also called Dinosaur?

Yes, but the last boss is definitely not a dinosaur.
I sent Falcom an email that was basically along the lines of "great game, but where are the dinosaurs?" with a .gif from Battle Angel Alita where Alita has a cartoony thought balloon of a tyrannosaurus rex above her head.
No response.
