Wyrd, cheers for delivering on the video front. Having seen the gameplay footage I now know it's one of those games I would get nowhere in but I appreciate you showing me that is the case

Awww!! (: Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone... but I really am finding it pretty addictive, myself. One of the things these videos DOESN'T show is the sheer variety of puzzles and dungeons in the game - trap floors, cave-ins, a section where you need to use ice magic to freeze a bridge over a river, weird logic puzzles, etc. It always finds a way to keep things interesting.
But yeah... despite that, if these videos make you think you likely wouldn't be able to get into the game, then you probably wouldn't!

Well in truth the language barrier would be the main thing stopping me! I also tried Wizardry 8 which I am guessing is the nearest western equivalent to it and man, I just had no idea what I was doing in it either. I think I am one of those people you would call interested but just not cut out for it. You have to let me know when your translation of Zwei II is done btw! That looks a little more up my alley

My translation is of Xanadu Next, actually. Though there IS also a Zwei II translation project underway, which is apparently about halfway finished. I think the Zwei II project may actually be finished before the Xanadu Next project, in fact - which is kinda sad, since the Xanadu Next project had a HUGE head-start, and there's a lot less text. (:

Nice vids. This looks really interesting; too bad I didn't bother getting this game when I had the chance 2 years ago.

You can still get it from Falcom's website - they still have it in stock, and they DO ship overseas, albeit with expensive shipping costs.

Ah, cool, forgot all about that. I guess I'll get it the next time I go for a bundle. Do they still have all the special editions and bonuses?
Anyway, one thing I find interesting about the videos is that you always use the zoomed-in map mode. Any reason for that? It seems too close, not letting you see the surroundings well. Every dungeon crawler fan I know of sticks with the bird's eye view so you have a better grasp of your surroundings.

Actually, that "zoomed-in map" is the default. In order to zoom out and see a bird's eye view, you need to use a SEARCH scroll, a lamp item, or the Map spell. Every time I click that little map icon on the lower-left corner of the screen in that last video, Elis is casting a Map spell (you'll note her TP goes down), and it only lasts for 10 steps, or until I get into a battle (or, sadly, open the menu).
The game is just hardcore like that, I guess. (: But hey, it could be worse - in the original Dinosaur, you didn't get the zoomed-in map at all... your only choice to see ANY of the map was to use a SEARCH scroll, a lamp item, or a Map spell! And there was no auto-mapping, either, to show you where you'd already been! So Resurrection was a definite step up, in that sense.
As for the special edition of Dinosaur, regrettably, they do not still offer that one - the only version still offered on their site is the base package, with just a box, manual, and game disc.
It's possible a Dinosaur Resurrection original box set will show up in their special of the week eventually, though.

Put up a new translated/subtitled video on YouTube showing off a bit more gameplay, as well as a few deeply unsettling pieces of story and character development: www.youtube.com/watch?v=feWA4GPVMOAMy favorite part is the sloshy sound effect that plays when you walk through the room full of corpses. Ewwww!! (: If you watch this, just remember, during the spoken dialogue, that this was all written in 1989. And be amazed. Because for a video game from 1989, this was some *damn fine writing*. Oh, and don't worry about spoilers: nothing revealed here directly ties to the story. It's all a mixture of atmosphere and character development, and basically all just amounts to "finding a way to get past that ghost girl." (: Again, 1989... goals were simpler back then! Heheheh... -Tom

Is that a teleporter maze right at the beginning? I think you've just singlehandedly killed my interest in Dinosaur. - HC

It makes you THINK it's a teleporter maze... but it's not. The solution is NOT TO TELEPORT, EVER - just walk through the walls at the ends of the long hallways.
There ARE teleporter mazes in the game, but they're less difficult to figure out than even the mirror section of Ys 1.
And as long as they don't overstay their welcome, what's wrong with teleporter mazes, anyway? That's like saying you won't play a game because it has box puzzles in it! (: And again... 1989, dude! Teleporter mazes were still BRAND NEW back in 1989!! (:

Point- I just regard teleporter mazes as one of the most obnoxious JRPG tropes, unless there's some trick to getting through them other than brute force. They just feel like an easy way to force a player to walk around in the same areas over and over again... (And yes, Tale of the Forsaken Land has one. It depresses me greatly. ) Also, whenever I see first-person teleporter mazes, I have flashbacks to the Karma Palace section of Persona.... *shudder* - HC

As long as they're not the basis for the entire game, and aren't obnoxiously long, I'm OK with teleporter mazes every now and again. In Dinosaur, there's only been one actual teleporter maze so far, and it literally took about 2-3 minutes to get through, as it was VERY short... and then the one depicted in the video, as mentioned, isn't even really a teleporter maze, since the solution is to walk through walls instead of teleporting - and once you figure out the pattern, it becomes abundantly clear exactly which walls you can walk through. (I actually thought the puzzle there was pretty clever, in fact!)

Dungeon Jazz! I love it!
It's more like something you'd expect to see on OCRemix rather than in in actual game.

Heh, yeah, that particular song is a bit of an oddity, but I kinda like it too. (:
