SGB in its entirely isn't well documented on the net. Maybe it was because too few people had it. Me and some guys (nensondubois and ugetab from gshi.org) decided to do something about it and we basically added tons of stuff to the wiki articles on the device and games.
But I gotta say that was the best way to play those GB games and those custom borders made them look even better on the screen.
It's very sad that the Game Boy Advance Player for the Gamecube didn't have all the awesome features the SGB had.
Someone needs to make a SGB article for this site PRONTO!

Man, these games seem SO right up my alley! I mean, hooowa!!
I really gotta get these, and a SGB for my SNES. Damn though, do different region games still get the bonuses like borders on a NTSC SGB? Or did they impliment some wacko region lock made to piss me off? I know the GB/GBC doesn't have regions so I am not worried.

I may have been one of the fifteen people in the United States who bought this game when it came out. It was the first (new) game I recall buying with my own money, I think because this was about the time I had my first real job. I bought a clear Game Boy Pocket, Donkey Kong 94, and Mole Mania.
I didn't know (and wouldn't have cared) that it was Miyamoto's doing, though.
I'm super-glad that people are starting to dig out these old adventure-puzzlers again, as y'all did with Lolo/Eggerland. What about Kwirk/Puzzle Boy? Or the unfairly-maligned Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle? Donkey Kong 94, I guess, counts too, although people seem to know how great that was.

I had a Chinese (a legit cart with all the correct markings in the right places, not a bootleg) Super Chinese Land 3 for GB that I got from K-Mart and it showed the borders and palettes on my US SGB. I heard it's not region locked, but that EU carts with it have the SGB stuff in the PAL format, so they won't display properly on US TVs.

Yo, Smithee, this is completely off topic, but if you're emulating Castlevania, then try the FDS version instead. It saves your progress between stages. That should make it easier to get past level 2.

I'm playing it on a real NES for once! Which is AMAZING for me, a new experience! Well also an old one, I have vague memories of using a real one. Saves would make things a LOT easier, that they would... But nope, it's on an NES. Thanks for the tip though! Once I beat it I might have to use that route if I wanna get through it quick.
