What the fuck is this bullshit!?DLC is the worst fucking goddamn thing that ever happened to video games. And all the people who defend it are just enabling these companies to keep screwing people over by not selling them complete games. What Capcom did with Mega Man 9 was bad enough, but forcing people to pay for multi-player!? Come the fuck on! Seriously, the Capcom of the 1980's and 1990's was all kinds of awesome, which just makes bullshit like this seem even worse. Not to mention the massive drop-off in the quality of their games since then.

They're not forcing people to pay for multiplayer, they're forcing them to pay for multiplayer versus. Co-op is still included as part of the core game, I do believe. Charging people for multiplayer is a pretty retarded move, though. Maybe not as bad as charging for small map packs or mini expansions (nothing like fragmenting the community!), but it's still something that probably should have just been included with the base game.

It's ridiculous all right, but I can guarantee those multiplayer modes wouldn't even be worth 50 cents. Playing this co-op with a friend last night (on PS3) was the most fun I'd had with a game in years, but a deathmatch mode just sounds hilariously bad. The pace of the game is deliberately slow, and I'd be surprised if going against human players-- everyone shuffling their feet, turning around slowly to slowly aim... slowly-- is anything but a miserable, boring time. "Slayers" just sounds like mercenaries mode online. Those who have played Gears 2's horde mode will probably be disappointed, while those who haven't will probably play 2 or 3 rounds before getting bored.
My guess is looping the game over and over in co-op mode would make for a far better experience.

Wow. For the first time, Capcom actually sinks to Namco Bandai's level of DLC BS.
But while Capcom and Namco Bandai are doing it wrong, I will defend DLC because a number of companies (Microsoft, EA, Harmonix, Bioware, even Activision to a lesser degree) do it consistently right. Games like Rock Band simply couldn't work as is without their DLC model providing new, interesting, and sometimes experimental content weekly.
BTW, I almost missed these zzz threads where he blows something massively out of proportion.

Heh, I feel your sentiments zzz, and all I can say is "Welcome to current gen gaming".
I'm done after this console generation, as 80% of what is coming out doesn't appeal to me, and these new ways of experiencing my games just seems gimicky. I have enough of a backloggery to last me till retirement, so perhaps its time to delve into the past, instead of griping about the future.

I have enough of a backloggery to last me till retirement, so perhaps its time to delve into the past, instead of griping about the future. I feel the same way, games for the X360, PS3 or Wii doesn't appeal to me very much. Mega productions cost so much to produce that they try to be as accessible as possible to sell a lot of copies. It also means that originality and new concepts are rarely tried, to not upset potential customers. I sepnt more time on my X360 to play downloaded game on XBLA than playing games bought in stores. Not to mention that my favorite genre (JRPG) is close to dying this generation as companies recycle so much in that genre, only the graphics improve mostly. There is still so much to do with that genre, see Shin Megami Tensei games for the PS2, but other developers don't seem to follow up at all. EDIT: It's official, grammar is a pain in the ass!

I don't generally buy add on DLC for games (I'm a sucker for collector's editions, though, which is about as idiotic), but this stuff has been frustrating ever since the horse armor incident with Oblivion.
And the thing is, while I don't care about this particular DLC, it's what it sets itself up for in the future. What else is going to be cut out only for you to have to buy it later? What exactly is my $60+ getting me?
And even more insulting than that? Capcom's seemingly picked up that people know when a DLC is a mere unlock code, so now they justify it by cutting the whole thing out and forcing you to download it.
It's horseshit, plain and simple.

Eh, it's only $5. That's really not all that bad. I agree that it's annoying, but for $5 I really don't think it's that big of a deal.

I think the best part is that the MP modes are so terrible, and the game is not asuited at all. Resi5's SP gameplay is already clunky and archaiac as hell, now imagine it in a Deathmatch setting.

What Capcom did with Mega Man 9 was bad enough, but forcing people to pay for multi-player!? Come the fuck on! I'll second the notion that games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero would suffer if they didn't offer DLC. That's number one. Two, you seem to be suffering from the delusion that buying the DLC available is a requirement to enjoy any of these games out of the box, which is bullshit. Resident Evil 5 has a well polished, twelve hour single player game with a ton of unlockables and crap to collect. It's already worth the money I paid for it. So was Mega Man 9. Do I buy DLC such as the RE5 multiplayer that's twisted your panties so mightily? Fuck no. But since I don't need to do so in order to enjoy the game, I don't give a shit about it one way or the other. Seriously, the Capcom of the 1980's and 1990's was all kinds of awesome, which just makes bullshit like this seem even worse. Not to mention the massive drop-off in the quality of their games since then. Mega Man 9 Street Fighter 4 Okami God Hand Resident Evil 4 (and in my opinion, 5) Devil May Cry 3 LoZ: The Minsh Cap I think you're insane. Recidivism has a hold on YOU , son.

I think that the loss of Shinji Mikami and the Clover Studio guys was a big mistake on Capcom's part. I just don't really expect to see as many interesting games from them at this point.

Oh zzz, when won't you exceed all logic when someone takes a crap on your extremist ideals?
Of course they're gonna make you pay for something you might not want in a game, that's why optional downloadable content is just that, optional. The fact that such a small and obviously minor feature would be sold at such a small and obviously minor price comes as no surprise to me.
This is gonna bomb and not because people are boycotting it on principle, but because even on paper it's just plain bad and the people who buy this game know it.
Plus, 90's Capcom wasn't all that great. Street Fighter 2010. 'Nuff said.
