How many times have you heard something similar to - "It's good, but it's not $50 good."? Publishers either need to be realistic and not sell C-grade games at AAA prices or reign in the cash and not spend what they can't afford to lose. You and I have disagreed about some things in the past, but for this one comment, I could almost kiss you. Mass Effect is an amazing game that easily supports multiple playthroughs and Achievement collecting. Devil May Cry 4 is the definition of tedium. One of those games provides $60 worth of entertainment, while the other does not. In an ideal world, DMC 4 would have cost around $20 brand new. I couldn't give a rat's ass if it cost the company $5 million or $10 million or whatever to develop that game. It didn't deliver $60 worth of entertainment, so it should have been sold at a (much) lower price point. I ended up getting mine for $11 off of Gamefly, and have absolutely no regrets about it. The case, game and instructions are all in like-new quality, and didn't have a ton of "USED" and "PRE-OWNED" stickers all over the place. The problem with the value of games, both perceived and real, is one of my major concerns. I really want to make a review site that lets people know how much a game is really worth, but have yet to get around to it. To be fair towards developers though, the vast majority of them are not the evil creatures that many here seem to believe. These are honest, hard-working people who love playing games and want to provide the best product they can. They have absolutely no control over how much the company decides to charge for their work, no say over the size of their budget or how the end results will be marketed. They do not feel that anyone "owes" them anything. They're just people doing their job. Would you blame the people working on an oil rig for the price of petrol? I would hope not. The real blame rests with the people in charge of those companies. They hold all the money, they set the direction for the employees, they determine the pricepoints. It's up to us as consumers to speak with our dollars and force them to change their ways.

Great points. I agree with your last paragraph in particular. It's why I refuse to buy Activision games new anymore. I refuse to support that greedy asshole Bobby Kotick with my money.

As a sidenote: games are too expensive in general; I was linked to an interview with Gabe Newell recently where he talked about sales numbers... Apparently when they cut the price of Left 4 Dead down to $25 for one of their weekend sales, Valve saw a 3000% increase in the number of copies sold that weekend (and thus their actual profits went up significantly) and no change in sales numbers in other weeks. Here's the article: www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22378- HC

I don't see why the company should get paid twice for the same product. Yeah, you could just buy the game and put it up on a torrent for everyone else. No reason they should be paid twice, eh? Fun thing is that on the flip side, people see no problem with giving their cash to retailers for no particular reason. I do understand some games deserve their asking price, but as a whole its just too damn much. Then wait until the new copies receive a price cut? It does happen with PC games - not as much with console games, I guess. Second-hand sales would be one contributor to that. In an ideal world, DMC 4 would have cost around $20 brand new. That's what I picked it up for near Christmas. But quite a few others apparently did buy it even for 40$, so there's no sense in not selling the game for that much to those people. Prices could drop faster, but things aren't that bad as it is right now, either. Yeah, they made more cash off it at half price than on release at full price. 25$ is still to much for L4D, though, as long as you can get something like TF2 for 20$ (or 10$ during sales).

Without Hideki Kamiya and the clover/platinum games staff? I'm not sure about this.

Man, with Ted Kennedy dead, this would've been awesome if it was rumors for a Killer7 sequel instead.

I think one Okami game is enough...

I think one "regular" Okami game is enough (more than enough), but I'd be lying if I didn't immediately begin fantasizing about a DS game in the style of Ganbare Goemon DS (graphically and to some extent gameplay wise).
hell, I'm trying pretty hard to resist designing it in my head.

Strider 2 and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo are the only reason I even still remember what Capcom is.

If you hate capcom you have no soul.
They're the only company that HAS NOT fallen from grace like Sega and Konami.

It's true. Even when they're crappy, they're really not.

It's true. Even when they're crappy, they're really not. and unlike that OTHER japanese fighting game company Capcom listens to what their fans want.
