A lot of the early shooters I'm playing in MAME do not have a rapid fire button, so I have to TAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAP... It's murdering my wrist. So, before my bones begin to disintegrate, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get a rapid fire function in MAME or otherwise. I tried Joy2Key, which maps keyboard keys to a controller with rapid fire. Sadly, MAME uses "raw input" now, so Joy2Key is useless. I tried searching around in Google but no luck... If anyone has a solution please let me (and others who read this) know! FYI I use a neo-geo PS2 stick hooked up to usb. I'd prefer to keep using it (so no "well, buy a rapid fire controller" solutions, please). Thanks. EDIT: Well, right now I'm using version 117 of MAME++ or something. I guess it's one of the many MAME32 custom builds, this one has autofire settings so it's pretty nice. Too bad there isn't a more up-to-date version...

You're out of luck. I have a controller with 2 autofire buttons and it works quite well, but it's really old and I don't know how much longer it's going to last.
I don't change it because stupid PS3 and Xbox controllers have changed the designs of all the PC controllers. So now there are no controllers with 6 face buttons, instead they all have 4, mimicking an PS3 or Xbox controller.

That is super. Thanks so much, I'll probably stick with that build.

For rapid fire with MAME I use Xpadder. Basically I create a game profile where I tell Xpadder which buttons to treat as auto fire. I load the profile whenever I want to play that particular game. For this to work you would have to disable MAME joystick support and let Xpadder translate your gamepad's controls into keyboard commands. Also I am not sure if it will work on the latest versions of MAME.
