Depends. There are tons of trolls there on the boards whose names I remember  . And on that topic, it's nice to see how non-judgmental we are around here in comparison with their boards. It's a shame that a lot of places feel that hazing is necessary. Back on topic, it would be both weird and creepy to have someone try to copy your schtick. Sorry you're having to deal with that, Gunheart. |

I've been on boards where newbies get "hazed" or looked down upon. Granted many of those boards were made up of insecure/antisocial teenagers and we all grew up and realized how stupid that was.

There's one board I only lurk on because while there are often interesting conversations going on, it's hard for someone without a post count to contribute. A dozen or so high post count members totally dominate every thread, fill it with injokes and puns, and pretty much everything else is ignored (unless you write something totally outrageous).
Newer members try to fit in by adopting the lingo/injokes, and by naming their threads cleverly.

I've been pissing myself off lately. Making a lot of excuses for why I never do anything, and while they do have a legitimate basis, in the end it's still my fault that I don't do anything to try to overcome them in isolation.
I'm getting tired of a lot of things about myself, some of it being how guarded I am even when I think I'm being open, because I'm always afraid of the next person who might try to take their cheap shot at what they think might embarrass me in everyone else's eyes.
As hinted at in posts in other threads, I think having blown so much money on games over the years was kind of a cover for that, and that is going to end. I want to start spending time, money, and effort on other things, even if I'm not entirely sure how to start on those things yet.
I'm just tired of being bitter over everyone else's successes and joy, I guess. I haven't had another person even slightly interested in me for close to 8 years now, nor have I had any significant accomplishments on a creative front in, well, ever (As an aside, I get frustrated when people assume it has to be a job/school type issue, and that that's the fix, because it's not, and it isn't). Right now, those are probably the two most important things to me, on a personal happiness level, maybe even to the point where they're starting to override my hypersensitive shame instinct.
All I know is that I'm legitimately angry at myself, and something needs to change. I need positive, encouraging influences in my life, not people who want to either point and laugh, or shovel another pound of dirt into the hole.

I've had a Something Awful account for years, and I still barely ever post because I'm terrified I'll just get bitched at if I do, or somebody's going to find some sort of personal information about me and make a huge thread about it.
Also, as to what's bothering me: It really sucks offering to write stories for people for money, and only having like one or two people show interest. Especially when you desperately need that money for airfare.
...Yeah, not really a big deal, I'm just venting.

Random people I don't know that, upon hearing me talk about a style of film I like decide to insult it (and in turn, me) Today I was in a JB HIFI (Aussie electronics store) with my sister. I mentioned to her that as I'd watched Kickboxer last night, I wanted to buy another JCVD film. A staff member standing nearby then comments "Who would want HIS films, haha". (I think he realized it wasn't a good idea to semi insult customers tho, when I snapped back that I would and that he was wearing a Chuck Norris t-shirt, and in no position to come down on JCVD films. He excused himself and I didn't see him the rest of the time I was in the store. That said, I'm not the type to complain about staff unless really pushed) The worst was a year or so back, when my sister and me were in a different store (A target I think) and I found a copy of Masters of the Universe on DVD. Now, I realize I lotta folks hate this movie...but not me. I commented to her (my sister) on how happy I was to have found this, as I'd wanted it for ages. Some strange guy standing nearby then said to me "I wouldn't piss on that", and in a really aggressive tone.  |

É can't believe than in year 2012 there are still lots of people who insist making music videos with Linkin Park and many popular "cool" francises for teenagers like Naruto, Bleach, Naruto, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hears and so on. There are millions of music bands and artists which you can use for your "coooooool" music video, be a little more original God damn it!

Every time I tell someone - anyone - my name, they have a specific response depending on their age group. For the record, my name is actually Ike, and I am not named after anybody.
Over 50 - "Ike? Like Eisenhower?"
30-50 - "Ike? Like Ike Turner?"
18-29 (nongamer) - "Ike? Like the hurricane?" (alt): "How do you spell that?"
18-29 (gamer) - "Ike? Like Fire Emblem?"
12 and under - "I PLAY YOU IN SMASH BROTHERS"
