Well, I was in meeting the new team yesterday and they kinda looked at me like I had two heads in a lot of cases Honestly- I've never understood how having long hair somehow makes me any less capable of doing a job. Still- the real test will be when I actually start working in their and have to check up on their progress etc. I'll try to remain cautiously optimistic prior to the starting date! Thanks for the support n' advice guys. I'll always be an intense worrier. I have far longer hair than you do and I still supervised a team with a great response. It's like everyone said; just treat everyone like fellow human beings. The only time that you really have to act like an authority figure is when people don't do the things that are asked of them. Even then you only have to apply pressure by a little bit. It's only the worst of workers that you have to be an ass to. Really, I think you're just waaaay too self-critical. I understand that viewpoint, since I am, myself, very self-destructive. You seem like a friendly guy and wouldn't think of treating good people wrongly, but just remember when you have to be tough on someone that it isn't your fault and you're not doing anything wrong (Unless you're beating your coworkers with a stick. Then I'd suggest some counseling).

Yeah this isn't the 60s. As long as your hair is hygenic, I doubt anyone cares. If you're that worried about it, tie it back or something so it's somewhat less noticeable.

Well, I only supervised a team of grocery store workers. Business-types still are backwards.

Okay as much as I adore Game Centre CX (I've started rewatching episodes as I can't stand the wait for new ones) I really really don't understand why there is one of the crew that literally does the same laugh after every single thing he says- even if it wasn't at all supposed to be funny.

People at home tend to become amused if other people are amused, even if the thing isn't all that funny. They're playing it up for ratings/content.

People that tell me to count my blessings or that God's watching over me because I merely lost electricity for a little over a week because of the hurricane while people a few miles cloesr to the shore lost their homes or even their lives. I call that luck and location because if I have to feel that a deity is watching over me because I didn't suffer nearly as badly as other people, that's a pretty terrible deity.

You'll do just fine, Bison. Management is a pain, and I'm terrible at it, but all you can really do is keep at it. You're a nice guy, though, so don't let your underlings take advantage of your good nature. I always kinda took it as croneyism...I think in Japan you get shot if you don't laugh at the boss' jokes ;p.

Taylor Swift and her popularity piss me off because every song of hers is "Wah, I hooked up with a guy that treats me like shit, wah. I hate you and I'm not going out with you anymore." It's like she's famous for being a victim. She and Jennifer Aniston should hang out and trade tips.

That and whenever some person gets all pissy and tells me her music is better, because it's more realtable and personal. I come back and say I can relate to Holy Diver because I want to ride a Tiger. That and rock is much much more fun to listen to then most recent music.

With how many crappy relationships Taylor Swift finds herself in, I think she's the problem.
Well, except for John Mayer. That guy's a dickwad.

So one of the reasons I moved to Japan is to study martial arts. I studied Aikido back home and after doing some research really wanted to study its parent art, Daitoryu Aikijutsu (VF fans might recognize this as Aoi's fighting style)... but it's very hard to find legitimate Daitoryu schools in back home (in the US).
I managed to find a couple Daitoryu schools after moving here, but the first was just totally ineffective and a waste of time, and the second was fake (no lineage back to the founder of the style).
Well, after nearly five years here I found a dojo that fits into my schedule and I have verified it is the real deal, with a link to the head dojo in Tokyo... went to visit, the teacher was a friendly old guy and I signed up...
But the teacher is actually a prick.
Outside of class he is this talkative grandfatherly-type guy who is always smiling. In class he's rude, insulting, and wastes everyone's time. Last week we had a four hour (!!) class, and- I am not exaggerating here- we spent a total of 20 minutes of that time actually doing Daitoryu. The rest was him insulting everyone, complaining about how we sweep the mats, reminiscing about his Karate days, lecturing us about history and geography.
I have a pretty thick skin (you need to if you are gonna be working with Japanese people), and I can take an insult. But I don't have any patience for people wasting my time. If someone gets a technique wrong, instead of lecturing on how to do it correctly, he just starts insulting the person, and just keeps repeating "why aren't you doing it exactly like I did it??"
I'm really bummed over this, as I have wanted to study this martial ever since getting back into martial arts 7 years ago. But I don't want to pay a guy 5000 yen a month to listen to him insult the whole class (including me, three people...) for hours.
I plan on finishing the month (I already paid after all), and looking around for something else. I've got Japanese Jujutsu and Brazilian JJ that I am still doing, so it's not like I would go without, but I would really like to study more traditional Japanese martial arts while I am here.
