You know, people love to talk shit about how we do things in America, but just think: we could be burning our daughter-in-laws over ransom money like in India, or mutilating our wives' genitalia with broken coke bottles (or other fucked up practices I'm not going to mention for fear of death). "But other places are worse!" isn't a good excuse, it's just a lazy way of justifying bad behaviour. I'm just sick and tired of how the world community villainizes us when they've got plenty of skeletons in their closets that they don't get called out on. Maybe we should threaten terror attacks to our critics, seems to work for other people.

A good point. China is arguably as bad as America, if not worse, yet America's is the global bad guy.

Not at all - I'm sure the tensions between India and Pakistan, the chronic malnourishment of North Korean people, Iranian/Kurdish troubles, etc, etc simply don't make exciting headlines for American news channels. Which headline is going to get more American people tuning in to an American broadcast - "Civil unrest in Thailand as army moves against red shirts" or "Here's another crazy Middle Eastern-ish person spitting on an American flag"? News broadcasters only tell you what they think you want to hear, and a few nutjobs in balaclavas standing in front of some Arabic writing is more commercial than talking about how the rest of the planet being mostly normal and minding its own business.

I'm pissed off about being mediocre in my field of employment. I know the feeling, man, perhaps all too well.

That's cool, just remember that the road runs both ways; Not all of us Americans are bad, bigoted, gluttonous monsters as the media enjoys portraying us in other countries.

Did I ever imply Americans were any of those things?

I think Americans are generally getting vilified by people or groups who stand to profit from Americans being vilified, maybe it's the same across the board, but I'm not gonna pretend to know for sure.

I'm pissed off about being mediocre in my field of employment. Better then being sub-standard. Also, if it really bothers you, then why not try and get better at it?

So half my department was laid off at work today. I survived the cuts and apparently there aren't going to be any more, but still, what the hell! They fired my boss, who I actually REALLY liked. And then of course one of the AVPs of the department makes an appearance, who's a colossal moron and an incredibly jackass too, when he's really the one who should've gotten the boot. Of course, he's too high up the chain for anyone above him to realize his incompetence.
Corporate America sucks. This is another stunning move in a company that is, quite literally, world renowned for stupid decisions. I need a new job.
