I'm pretty much a live and let live kind of guy, but if Republicans wanted to pass a law making it illegal to be a furry, I'd vote W into office for an unprecedented third term. It skirts way too close to outright bestiality for one. I know that this isn't true of all furries, just as not all tv / tg people are gay. Even so, it just doesn't sit well with me. You're pretending (repeat, pretending, you are not an animal IRL) to be an animal, who then has sex with other animal-people. That's bestiality in my book.
For another, it makes you sound like you're psychotic. No different from all the psi-vampires or people who like to pretend that they've lost a limb. I get the idea of fantasy, I really do. Honest to god, more nights than not, I dream that I'm Batman. I'll be 32 in a couple of months, so I definitely understand the appeal of escape through fantasy. Being a furry is just too much in my eyes, though. Like I said, I love Batman more than any mature adult should, but I don't actually pretend to be Batman in real life. Nor do I pretend to be Batman HAVING SEX with people. It's just a line in the sand that seems to be a step too far, to me.
So yeah, that's my rant on furries.

Having been to actual furry conventions and met actual furries, very few of them are anything like what you've described (although they certainly exist) and they're absolutely not psychotic. Most furries are just people who have an online avatar that happens to be anthropomorphic. You're reading entirely too much into it.

I definitely see what you're saying, but there's a lot more to being a furry than just having an anthromorphic animal as your avatar. For instance, I have Zorak as my avatar right now. This doesn't make me a furry. Unless the definition of the fetish has changed, my understanding is that being a furry involves at least one of the following: - Wishing to be a certain type of animal - Wishing to be an anthromorphic type of a certain animal - Sex This is different from just being a person who grew up around golden retrievers, and liking that type of dog. Furries see themselves as a particular animal, which seems kind of crazy in my book. Further, (and if this has changed, by all means let me know) there's a definite sexual side to it. Otherwise it wouldn't really be a fetish. I'm not saying that furries are evil people. I just find the fetish itself repugnant. I'll say this much, though. If the actual accepted definition of being a furry does not involve a sexual component, I'd be more than happy to change my views on the group as a whole.

Furry is perhaps the most poorly defined term for a fandom I've ever seen. It's like if Trekkies were called "Star Treks".

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to say that ALL furries are the kind of idiots that I keep having to ban/warn/otherwise moderate - I'm just saying that, of all the people I've had to do such things to, many of them either are or claim to be furries, that being the term that said individuals use, not a term I came up with for them.
Just in case anybody thought I was harboring any kind of genuine hatred, I thought I'd clear it up - I'm not. I'm only making an observation.

DmC. Everything about it. From the crap that lead to its creation to the crappy Ninja Theory combat to the classic Devil May Cry fans who care more about the hair than the coat to the Ninja Theory fans who say wait and see despite the fact that Ninja Theory is always more concerned with making a movie instead of an actual game...

Furries see themselves as a particular animal, which seems kind of crazy in my book. Further, (and if this has changed, by all means let me know) there's a definite sexual side to it. Otherwise it wouldn't really be a fetish. Dude, you're laying down some pretty hardcore bigotry, here. First off, to clarify, there is no standard definition for furry, and what it is differs from person to person. There's a small subset of people in the fandom who oppose the sexualizing of it, but for the most part, the fandom admittedly does largely rotate around a sexual attraction. That said, the gold standard among furries is some underlying affinity for animal-people. People who actually believe that they're animals/dragons/whatever are sometimes considered a subset of "furry," but are either therians or otherkin, people who (more or less) believe they're not who they physically appear to be. Otherkin can cover a broad scope of people, from those who believe they're dragons, to people who believe they're Gods/Goddesses, to those who believe they're characters from The Incredibles, to, most commonly, people who believe they're actually vampires or dragons (through those groups have admittedly gotten so big and obnoxious they sometimes classify themselves as exclusive from the community). Therians, on the other hand, believe they can shapeshift into animals. Someone who is a therian or otherkin may be part of the furry fandom, but that aspect of themselves is distinct from it. Furries who belong to either of those communities are extremely few in number and widely considered to be silly by the rest of the fandom. A lot of furries do wish they were animal people, but the portion who believe they actually are is extremely slim. Most furries see their "furry selves" or "fursonas" (stupid word) as projections of themselves. People usually pick an animal they have a strong affinity for or have a lot of traits in common with as their fursona. To some other people in the fandom, I say that "I'm a snow leopard," because it lets them know what my fursona is and makes me feel comfortable about expressing my affinity. To an ordinary person, I wouldn't say that, because they interpret it as though I literally believe I'm an actual snow leopard. The furry fandom likes playing pretend about their fursonas. Some furries like to greet others with "I'm _____, and I'm a _____," which confuses a lot of people. These people extremely rarely believe they're actually that animal, they generally just really like expressing that they're a furry. Giving people animal traits or having them be animal/human hybrids is roughly as old as art is, and sexualization of these animal traits has been around near forever, too, and still maintains something regularly accepted in society. Why do the Playboy bunnies wear the tails and ears? Why do men and women often find the opposite sex with cat ears on "sexy," or like it when their partner acts "catty" in bed? Yes, furries take it a step further, but humans have sexualized and fantasized about other humans with animal traits for thousands of years. Most furries firmly oppose bestiality, and most zoophiles have absolutely nothing to do with the fandom. Furries who do enjoy bestiality are, of course, present in the fandom, but not remotely to the extent that people imagine. I'd make a fair wager and say more people involved in the fandom are into more obscure fetishes like vore and inflation than there are into bestiality. On FurAffinity (by leaps and bounds the most popular furry website and art website), you're able to search artwork uploaded by fetish category. Despite there being categories for some fetishes that bother people more than bestiality (vore, babyfur/cub), there is no category for bestiality or zoophilia. And, just so it doesn't look like I'm making bestiality a scapegoat, here (although I do wish to stress it is very distinct from the furry fandom), intelligent animals like dogs are documented as having sex for pleasure and will engage in sexual acts with human beings out of their own volition and without training. Particularly intelligent creatures like dolphins are known to actually seek out companionship and return to areas for sex with people. More intelligent animals can consent to sex and engage in it for reasons extraneous to procreation. It can, in many cases, still be considered animal abuse, but a zoophile is not intrinsically a bad or disgusting person. You have every right on Earth to find any of these sexual acts completely and totally gross. I am not and will never contest that right. However, I think it's ridiculous you're being so hateful and close-minded toward these people, or think they're screwed-up just because of what they find attractive. What consenting adults do behind closed doors without harming one another is entirely their own business. I mean, you enjoy visual feedback while you control a murderer when you play a number of video games you enjoy. When you played Catherine, you probably enjoyed simulating infidelity. The worst most furries do that is related to the fandom is love each other while pretending to be animal people. Is that such a bad thing that you have to think poorly of the group, on the whole? Our "playing pretend" is certainly not as bad as the things many people do in a video game on a daily basis.

My problem stems entirely from the fact that it involves animals. I don't have a problem with homosexuality, because it involves two consenting humans. Regardless of whether an animal could actually be qualified as "wanting it", it's still an animal. It's not a human. That's disgusting to me.
Your point about animal-like traits is kind of poor, as well. People do not imagine that a girl in a Playboy costume is an actual bunny. Likewise, when a woman wears a Catwoman costume for Halloween, her boyfriend doesn't imagine that she's an actual anthromorphic cat person. They're just hot costumes. Would you say that people imagine that someone wearing a devil costume is literally the embodiment of all evil in the Christian theology? Of course not. It's just a costume.
Having said that, I do want to thank you for clarifying some of the finer points on the fetish as a whole. Having read what you said, I could see how this could be a very sore spot for the furry community. Society doesn't accept them for who they are, and I can readily acknowledge that no one chooses what turns them on, it's just something that happens. With the more bizarre examples being documented out on the internet, it must be very difficult for people to realize that not everyone is an otherkin, as you put it. So I want to apologize for making that accusation, but I'm glad that this led to me learning that the overall community isn't as bad as I'd been lead to believe.
It's still gross to me, though, and I still think it's at least a little crazy, but it's a free country.

I respect peoples' rights, but in the case of the Otherkins and Therians it sounds kind of self-destructive...is it that they actually believe that they are animals/can turn into them? Not that they'll necessarily hurt themselves or others, but it's basically deluding yourself into believing something that is false, and can be proven to be false unless you're thinking that we're also in the Matrix. P.S., is pretending to be demonically possessed by a psychotic babby turtle from Korea for the lulz considered being a furry? Also, the babby turtle is obsessed with human women and thinks fucking animals is gross. Not trying to be a dick, this topic just made me think of that though.

Y'know what, I'm prepared to just make one last post in here.
This forum. This forum pisses me off. Everything is an argument, everybody yells at each other, it's always a fucking contest about who knows more about some obscure game than someone else. And hell, even the blog sometimes, with Sketcz rambling on for three paragraphs about why some magazine is evil incarnate because his name isn't printed along with an overly pretentious article that he wrote, instead of talking about anything that I'd care about, like the article itself.
I'm done here. Anybody wants to try arguing with me, pop into the IRC channel. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Well, at least it's not like the forum I got kicked out of. Over there, if you don't put up with the shit the "protected" members give you, you get kicked out.
