When someone says something totally innocuous but because of the circumstances surrounding it you want to blow your fucking head off. This happens all the time. Sometimes it's not even directly related to the person who said it.

Prototype hoarders. So many one of a kind treasures rotting away, no thanks to greed and selfishness. Many of those games (especially the Neo Geo games) look fun to play.

I don't know that I'd act any differently if I got something like that. Is there a non-destructive way to dump a rom? I'm not really sure what they do with it. At any rate, I'd probably consider it if A) it didn't freaking nuke my game and B) they paid for my travel arrangements so I could be present/make sure they didn't fuck with or steal my prototype.

NDAs might also be a concern.

What NDA would apply?

Most ROM dumping does not nuke a ROM. The reason that retail value on these things drop is exactly because of the fact that they're undumped; apparently they have no worth as collectors items. It's a really strange market in that respect.

You mean to say they have no value if they aren't dumped or if they are?

Yeah, that confused me a bit.

There are the really tricky games that can't be dumped without pulling the thing open and "decapping" all the chips within...

As aggravating as it is, I can kind of understand people not wanting to reduce the value of a collectible by making a rare item more easily available.
I know that's why, with comic books at least, reprints of super rare older comics tend to go out of their way to not look like the originals, or if they do, they tend to have something added to the comic to make it stand out from the original.
Of course, its a bit easier for comics books to be reprinted and made available than it is for older protos and such so....*shrugs*

I might be off here, but I'm pretty sure there was a lot of raging and gnashing of teeth in some circles when high-value imports (Rondo of Blood, Radiant Silvergun) were given digital releases on current-gen systems for this very reason. Someone who isn't OCD about collecting is going to be a lot less likely to hand you $300-500 for your copy of Radiant Silvergun when it's sitting there on XBLA for $15.

Bought a refurbished Xbox 360 (couldn't afford a brand new one due to album costs / living costs etc) and I get it home; all the graphics are blocky or throwing up weird pixels... Why me?

About a year ago I was verbally bitched out worse than I have ever been by a spiteful shitmound of a woman, chat-goer UndyingSong's aunt. I was told I was a leech on her family, an abuser, a sack of shit and then she threatened to have my ass kicked if she found out that I had abused UndyingSong or her elderly grandmother. (I haven't, for the record.)
This same woman, a year earlier, had pretty much abandoned us, while we were taking care of UndyingSong's grandparents full-time, moving herself and her kids out of their house and disappearing for 3 months without telling us. The only way we found out was at 3 a.m. while UndyingSong's grandfather was being carried out to an ambulance on a stretcher, beginning his 2-year hospice stay. She chose that time to inform us that she had abandoned us months prior.
Last night, her grandfather passed away, and we are about 1,500 miles away. She's agonizing about whether or not she'll be able to attend the funeral due to money concerns and having to get there on such short notice. Meanwhile, Bitch Aunt is not going to be attending or allowing her children to attend because they will be "out of town."
This bitch took money from us, took drugs from UndyingSong's grandparents, only mowed her property once every 2 months or so (in Florida this is kind of a big deal because snakes) and demanded that UndyingSong's grandma, living on social security and the leftovers of her husband's pension, pay her rent for living on their own (deceased) son's property.
Yeah, I'm the piece of shit.
