Okami's treatment of old Shinto legends was unorthodox, certainly, but it was hardly all that crazy

Today I got a notification that the government altered the financial aid regulations, and that I will not be getting any more PELL grants because I've been a student for 12 semesters. See here. Thanks a whole fucking lot, Republicans! XD Now I get to try to figure out how to stay in school tomorrow with financial aid. w00t What the fuck...Sorry to hear that, man. -edit- Not sure if this is the right thread for this. What I'm about to mention doesn't "piss me off" so much as it leaves me profoundly depressed. An old friend of mine from college has been living with terminal brain cancer for the past six years. I just found out that she contracted meningitis in March, as well. Considering her condition, I suppose it makes sense. It's just all so unfair.

Welp, I guess I won't be getting unemployment benefit money anymore! Time to go back to school and see if that won't help me get a damn job...

In some ways, I think what annoys me most about DmC is the way the press just completely eats it up. Like that Destructoid preview that claims being able to effortlessly lock enemies in aerial combos was great, or all the ones that gush about the combat being dumbed down because it makes it easier to pick up. Well, that and the fact that it's gone from directional inputs and timing to alternating between "light and strong" attacks to string combos together like God of War. After playing El Shaddai, this is the wrongest way to make a beat 'em up. Using precise timing to string attacks is far more satisfying than alternating between light and heavy. It is so gratifying to use the fist weapons in that game and get the timing just right so that Enoch starts engaging repeated punches, accelerating until he's just wailing on a dude. It's a hard move to time but it's so worth it. Somebody actually played El Shaddai?

Tv Tropes. I'm a "troper" myself (heck, I even just opened a discussion in GVG based on a page I created there) but I hate the direction it is going to. Long story short, even after a new incident with google was resolved, site admin Fast Eddie used it as the chance for yet another "purge", a moral panic that has led to the removal of pages like Nabokov's Lolita, leaving only a message that's almost rude and doesn't explain anything. That and other pages may be restored once a committe to review all that's been blocked is formed, but still. I've also heard rumors of suggestions to shut down the forums not due to maintenance cost but for the same concerns about "objectionable content" there. Notice how this purge doesn't extend to works containing racism (like some old books or The Birth of a Nation) or extreme violence (Saw and Hostel movies, someone sarcastically suggested to cut them out too). Double standard much? The simple problem, however, is how TVT, after berating Wikipedia for years, is becoming actually worse than them. I'm for some content control to avoid excesses but what I see is a wiki I have fun contributing to, becoming progressively drier.

Ouch. As a troper, I didn't hear about that one. That said, I'd at least place some of the blame on the people who keep complaining to Google, since the site relies on ad revenue for server maintenance.
But the idea of the forum being purged is just annoying.

It's all in Wiki Talk and they don't seem to want to issue some general announcement right now for fear of a shitstorm (like letting rumors spread is better).
Problem is, probably those people aren't driven by "honest" concerns but by trolling (there's a feud with Something Awful AFAIK); in fact someone advised against this "purge" because it means a victory for those people and won't certainly stop them from finding yet another excuse to bring Google to pull ads out in the future.
Last thing I read from Fast Eddie, he wants the word "porn" out of the wiki. Even the "Scenery Porn" and "Costume Porn" tropes may get their names changed. This is getting ridicolous.

Idiots at Amazon. I ordered a 16GB Memory Stick Duo for my PSP yesterday that was supposed to come today through one day shipping. I opened the package when I came home from school around 2 hrs ago, and in it...
FUCKING NOTHING. (except the receipt.)
I gave the seller an earful and they told me it was Amazon's fault. Called up Amazon and they told me they'd refund me in 2-3 days. I'm getting my money back, but it's still disappointing as all hell because I wanted this thing ASAP (I was looking forward to installing CFW tonight and having some fun with the first part of two in the latest entry in a certain series involving warring super robots) and now I'm stuck waiting 'til at least Friday. Fuckups like this is why I prefer brick and mortar stores.

In America, there's a new ADA compliance law being put into effect where all public pools (including hotels) need to have a lift for disabled people. While cute and nice in theory, it's forcing a large expenditure on a lot of municipalities and businesses that either don't have the capital for it or are going to pass the cost down to their customers.

This picture. Showed up as a mod on ToonZone's avatar and profile pic for a while. I really liked it, and asked where they got it through a private message...and never got a response. To keep from being to overt, I waited a few months and asked in their visitor message space, and still got no reply. Please note that this user did answer questions about his other avatars. I mean, I'd gladly accept a "I'm sorry, but I can't tell you" or some such, but the silent treatment is just a pain.

You might be able to do a reverse Google image search on that one to find the source. No idea if that's possible, though.

Reverse image searching (through TinEye and Google's reverse image search) only points me to the Toonzone thread where he originally asked the question...

When someone says something totally innocuous but because of the circumstances surrounding it you want to blow your fucking head off.

It's not a deal breaker, but I having gotten a major spoiler for Prototype 2, I do feel like venting something... My problem with James Heller is the reason he was created in the first place. The whole idea that the hero needed to be more "relateable". The result is a generic badass that's been relentlessly shilled at the expense of what seemed like a potentially cool character arc for Alex Mercer. It even ends with going through on the tagline after Alex turns on Dana...
