Someone should do an article on Leland Electronics' "Brute Force". That game was so awful and so fun.

Reading the article right now. That "fat toad" must have some really low standards judging by the quality of the girls he kidnapped. They haven't been beaten up, bloodied, and scarred enough for you?

They look like typical 80's chicks to me. A couple of them are kinda cute, but not much to look at . Kute Katie, the damsel in Vendetta, has a weird face by comparison and an even weirder fashion sense. The only one I consider remotely hot from this series is Sheena from Violent Storm. Edit: For some truly scary-looking video game women, check out the chicks from the ending of U.S. Championship V'Ball for the arcades. Its also funny how the two guys in the picture are white, when one of them is supposed to be black. www.vgmuseum.com/end/arcade/e/usc.htm

"There's an extra level after you finish the game where you fight each boss" doesn't make it clear that you fight all of them simultaneously. It's probably the best part of the game when the bosses get their revenge, and it made us laugh for the entire half hour it took to beat the assholes.

The women look super-weird, the camera that took the picture is apparently a racist, and you just get the EXACT same image for beating the game on Major as you do Minor. Yeesh. If you want a scary woman in a video game, what's with that chick that pops up when you beat a level in Heavy Shreddin'? She gave me fucking nightmares as a kid!

I finally got around to reading this article just now even though I remember thinking it was really cool when it first went up. It was a funny coincidence at the time since myself and some buddies had stumbled across Vendetta in MAME just a few days before, and we were laughing our asses off at the story and all the other goofy things going on in the game. :)
Anyway, great job on the article. I think it would be really awesome if someone could extend this theme and cover the other two games mentioned in the intro so that all 5 non-licensed beat-em-ups were covered. Metamorphic Force in particular is a really interesting, stylish game, and while I can't say I know squat about the other, it sounds intriguing.

Apparently, nobody else seems to consider Gaiapolis a beat-em-up. Everybody that I've talked to about the game seems to view it as an overhead action game. However, revolverocelot was (maybe still is?) writing something about the game, so it could still go up here. I've actually been considering writing about all of their stand alone beat-em-ups for a long while. If I ever get around to it, it would have Metamorphic Force, and possibly Gaiapolis. Another game that could make it would be Adventures of Bayou Billy, though that game's status as a beat-em-up is also highly questionable.

I was just playing TMNT III for NES and I found what that CF bridge level boss (Sledge) is a parody of. He's based on Slash from the bridge level (stage 3) of that game.
