According to the offical site, Guy gave up being a Bushin Ninja that destroys evil, and now runs a gang out of Metro Cities Japan Town. (No mention of Maki was made, and none of the stuff I've checked has mentioned her either. I doubt Dean or Lucia from Final Fight 3 will be putting in any appearances either)
Also, the reason for Cody's jailing has been changed from that of Street Fighter Alpha 3 (After Final Fight, Cody couldn't stop street fighting, and was eventually arrested by Edi E. He breaks out for the events of SFA3 and is chastised by Guy for what he has become.) To now being arrested as Guy bungled a robbery or a drug deal or something, with Cody taking the blame.
This flys in the face of how Guy is protrayed in both the Street Fighter Alpha series and even in Final Fight One!
Haggar is retired and running a Gym, which makes sense for the character. (Though I still wonder why he was never made playable in the Alpha series, and finally had the chance to pit Haggar against Zangief)
That said, why the storyline annoys me, as does the GTAifaction of Final Fight, I'm still considering buying the game (Mostly because there's an arcade mode that lets you play as Haggar, Guy or Cody, or so I've been told)

I'm pretty sure the "arcade mode" is just the port of the original arcade game the game has as an unlockable, so you might as well pick up Final Fight One or something instead.
*insert more "plz try my obscure games" whining here*

Also: its horrible, totally abysmal

The arcade mode is the best part about Final Fight Streetwise. It really feels like the old games done in 3D. The only problem is that you still can't jump, can't use any of the techniques from the main game, and you have to play story mode to unlock more characters and stages. There's even some vague remixes of the original Final Fight song.
As a whole, Final Fight Streetwise kind of feels like it was made by two different factions. It feels like the suits really wanted a "street" game to appeal to the American audiences. But the people who had to actually make the game decided to follow orders, but make it kind of goofy and subversive. From an interview I read, this almost sounds like the case - it was made by an American team, and they wanted to do a cell shaded game with character designs by Akiman, but the guys in Japan wanted them to make it more "American".
All of the cursing and rough dialogue? Don't take it seriously. It's actually kind of funny. Parts of the game are just plain silly - whenever you have high respect in the area, random people come up to you and say the craziest things. ("Hey Kyle! What kind of shaving cream do you use?" "Hey Kyle! I painted my room! Guess what color?) There are lots of amusing signs throughout the game. And you talk to one punk and he's like "Hey, your brother looks like that dude in that old Final Fight arcade game."
There's still some stupid parts - instead of having wacky bad guys like Sodom and Edi E, the first boss is this bald guy named Weasel, whom you first meet while being orally pleasured by a prostitute. But when you fight him, he's in a forklight. Which is...kinda silly. But it feels like something that'd happen in an old Final Fight or Streets of Rage game. Anyway, there's no Maki or Lucia or anything, but apparently Andore and Cammy are in there somewhere.
The fighting engine is the best of any 3D fighting game out there. By nature, it's still quite repetitive, but it's fast and tight - better than Beatdown, anyway. I still wish there was a map.
Anyway, it's still not a SPECTACULAR game by any means, don't go running out and pay $40 for it. But it's not nearly as bad as all of the game mags made it out to be.
Also: the emulated version of the arcade Final Fight here is awful. It's choppy and you only get limited credits. The Capcom Collections one is far better.
On a sidenote, Ninja Baseball Bat Man or whatever looks awesome. I'll give it a shot later.

Yay progress. Now if more than 3 people read my FAQ and played the game associated with it.
