2 in 1 fun facts about Yoshi. 1 The Yoshi sprite design (and the best design period) used in Yoshi's Island (AKA the best sidescroller ever made) wasn't really used in that game the first time. It was actually used first in.... Yoshi's Cookie and Mario All Stars two years earlier. In Yoshi's Cookie, you can catch the sprite in the ending of the game and in Mario All Stars, you can see the sprite in Mario 3's transformed king of World 7. *Edited to show the sprite used for Super Mario All Stars, also in 1993. Thanks Kishi! 2 Another fun fact, but one no one really gives a damn is that Yoshi's Cookie got some kind of 'sequel' in Japan, titled Yoshi no Cookie: Kuruppon Oven de Cookie. In addition of including the original game, it also has a game mode where you move around in a map entering houses, collecting ingredients and learning how to make Piranha Plant (and Heart shaped of course) flavored cookies. Apparently, according to teh internetz, the game was only released as a promotional prize if you bought some sort of small oven from a company called National Human Electronics. Only 500 copies were made and it's extremely expensive to buy nowadays. And by the way, this game gave you actual real life recipes with real life weights and measures to try on your newly bought real life oven. Anyone wants to make their own Goomba cookie?

The ROM is not hard to find, but it's downright impossible to figure out what you're doing - or at least, that's my opinion. Did you take those shots yourself, Mr. ReyVGM?
So how does the sprite in NES "Yoshi" compare? (Rather dull and uninspired, that one. Look for "Deli Dash" for Windows if you want to give it a whirl.)

I never said the ROM was hard to find, I said the (real) game was hard to find.
I did take those shots myself, why?
Also, the Yoshi sprite in the NES version is totally different. Small body and a huge head. Pretty awful.

That's pretty nifty, particularly the bit about the "sequel." I had no idea such a thing existed at all.

I never said the ROM was hard to find Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you did. Evidently you had considerably more success in figuring it out than I did.

Not really. I just went into each house and took a different picture. But I wasn't able to figure out what to do since the instructions are in Japanese.

This an early sketch of Yoshi from the NES era. Miyamoto wanted a dinosaur in the Mario series since Super Mario Bros. but the limitations of the platform prevented the idea until Super Mario World was released for the Super Famicom.

I didn't know about the sprite re-usage or the Japan-only sequel. That's pretty cool

There has to be more reasons than just platform limitations, considering they could do things like Kuriboh's Shoe in Super Mario Bros. 3, and that was a throwaway item you could easily miss in a single stage.
