there was more variation with the "copy-cats" than just weight classes. There were other issues like trajectory and launch path (of their own moves). Moves functioned in fundamentally different ways.
The only changes from the previous cast that I wish for is the neutering/tweaking of all the ASSHOLE characters (Marth, Fox, Shiek). Of the three, marth and fox are in the most need of re-balancing.
Roy's forward smash could also use a slight dulling. I love roy, but that particular attack seems slightly overpowered.

Someone needs to tell capcom to fix all those ryu clones too then.

*sigh* A lot of characters (in all kinds of fighting games) that looks like clones at first glance, are actually having a lot of differences between them that affects how you need to play. So they are not really clones (not always, tough)

dartagnan1803 I haven't really actively followed the tier scene, could you possibly bring up what makes them so particulary bad (just out of interest I'm not doubting you).

Although it would never happen, if they put in Rad Spencer that could potentially be the best thing to ever happen.

I understand, but when you make Ganondorf, give him the exact same moveset as Captain Falcon, and then alter a few stats like the pitch of the attacks, it just seems really lackluster to me. I mean, is it really THAT difficult to give characters unique moves?

dartagnan1803 I haven't really actively followed the tier scene, could you possibly bring up what makes them so particulary bad (just out of interest I'm not doubting you). Fox has ridiculous speed, a double hit Up+A in midair (that tends to kill at low percentages), and the 'Shine Spike' that can kill someone at 0% The shine spike is the strike that comes when you just activate his reflector at close range. It always knocks the enemy away at the same distance regardless of percentage. you basically knock them off a platform so they need to recover, then jump off into them as they try to (then just press down+B to shine spike them, then shinespike them away for an instant kill. Falco is different since his shinespike sends people straight up rather than the angle it hits from. Marth has a broken up-tilt. he can essentially deliver very damaging moves from beneath any low platforms you stand on. his damage is also centered at the tip of his sword, which makes his range very abusable. His speed keeps all this out of balance as well (while Roy is open to counterattack if he ever whifs his smash attacks). A Marth game is essentially an agrivating game of keep-away. The only characters that can effectivly penetrate his range and damage zone are the other sword users. Shiek is also cheap, but not so much so as she's more of a utility character (essentially one half of zelda). Shiek has a near infinite juggle that is accomplished with her downward throw. When combined with the stun effect and low trajectory, this can be repeated without direct counter attack untill about 40% damage can be inflicted. Combine this with quick and a relativly long throw range, and you have a needlessly frustrating character that most tourney players loathe. The throw is combined with both the up-smash and air-punch for quick kills.

The only characters that can effectivly penetrate his range and damage zone are the other sword users. I'm not so knowledgeable about Smash, buy I do know that Peach can give Marth really hard time, and between them she is the favorite to win. Anyway, those characters (Marth, Fox and Shiek) are not broken, they are just top tiers. As for the clones subject, no its not hard to give any characters unique moves but it is hard to balance the game after that (unless you are the super talented team Arc System). Also, Smash has a lot of unique characters even with the clones. So sometimes its better to do a clone with some differences (which will cause different play style) than to make a unique (and stupid) character like Mewtwo that no one will use anyway.

But with characters like Mewtwo, it's more the oddness and fun, much like Ice Climbers. You play them just because they're odd.

As much as I am happy with the addition with Pit, doesn't his new make-over (or at least in that picture) make him look like Sora in the first Kingdom Hearts. Also, seems as though Samus turns into Zero Suit Samus under some conditions instead of choosing her directly, kind of like Shiek except with out the whole button mapped to change it.

Actually, I really like the way they remade Pit. As for Samus, they might have an option where you can hold a few buttons down to automatically change into Zero Suit like they did with Zelda/Shiek.
Oh, and I can't wait to see if they have an Angel Land stage in Brawl. Complete with Reapers and Eggplant Wizards? That would be friggin awesome.
