Well I can't comment on why the endings are not different enough. I haven't seen the other two I didn't take. Nor do I think you should look at it that way. The question should be whether the ending to your Mass Effect story was good, whether or not it would have ended the same way if you had made a different decision.
Spoiler?:
The Normandy wasn't using a Mass Relay, looked like Joker was just trying to outrun the shockwave - which seems reasonable enough. Why one of the crew members who I had with me on Earth is with Joker is a bit curious, but it's not impossible to imagine he picked up people who didn't make it with Shepard.

You guys do realize there are some of us that haven't finished it, right?
Please use the black font for spoiler text.

I was trying to be as vague as I could. Black text doesn't help for those who are using the white-background theme.

I'd like to take the time to remind everyone to please mark any sort of major spoilers, even offsite links. Especially with a story intensive game, these sort of things can ruin an experience for many. And while I don't think anyone actually spoiled intentionally (that'd be another thing entirely), just be careful from now on.
In lieu of this forum not having spoiler tags (I've seen forum hacks for them on other proboards so they're possible), use [ color = black ] BBCode. I think the vast majority of people use the default theme, so that should work for pseudo-spoiler tag.

I didn't even know you could set the background to be white I usually mark spoilers in black text, but it wouldn't work for a white background. Would it be possible to add a custom spoiler tag to the forum?

I've been thinking back over the series as a whole. I only played ME 1 and 2 once, around when they were released, so I only vaguely remember the first game. I'm not too big on replaying games, but once of these days I'd like to replay the whole trilogy, maybe when they release the super-definitive set with all the DLC and whatnot.
I had these vague memories of something I thought might be Mass Effect 1 - a space port on Earth with a bar. But after doing some digging I realized I was thinking about Freelancer! Man, I completely forgot about that game's existence.

So I just beat it. And it's pretty epic. I've only played through each of the games once, and seeing all the decisions you made come together is awesome. Probably the most fulfilling series of games I've ever played. More satisfying than Xenosaga and .hack// series' at least. I don't think Dragon Age 3 will even begin to compare.
Catastrophically Huge Series Spoilers: The ending was pigeon holed. 3 choices no matter what it seems? Wasn't quite expecting the JRPG challenge god twist, but I've never seen it pulled off better in a video game than it is here. Don't even feel the need to finish Devil Survivor 2 now. Nothing even comes close to the scale of this game. My Shepard just saved and changed existence for an untold number of organisms on countless planets and suns! Kinda hard to ever top that. Bioware seemed to shoot themselves in the foot with the DLC though. They can't add an addendum, and what more could I want? Not like I have a Mass Effect 4 to transfer a save to.
Oh and I didn't buy the DLC. Talking with my brother it doesn't seem like I missed out on that much. $10 day of release for an extra character is a little much. Don't be greedy EA.

For me...
I've just saved the Citadel from Cerberus, been loaded with enough fetch quests to fill the entire viewable section of the journal, and frankly I'm just not that interested in finishing. Again, the pacing sucks, and the spoilers for the ending just leave me feeling outright insulted by its stupidity. It's an insult after having followed this series and bought ever collector's edition since the first. The only reason I can think of to keep playing is that I find the Vanguard to be fun to play as. But I was far more satisfied by Xenosaga.

Oh, you hadn't even finished it? It seems like you really must have dug into spoilers somewhere...
To give up because you think you'll hate the ending based on seeing it by itself, rather than actually experiencing the game entirely seems stupid. Especially since you "find the Vanguard to be fun to play as." No, the ending isn't great, but it's not bad enough to negate all the greatness that leads up to it.

Can someone spoil this for me: Is it at least an ending? Is there finality? Because I'm tired of games which end in a way where they kinda haven't really ended. Case in point: Alone in the Dark on PS3. Fantastic game, no proper ending.
Edit: answered by Digitalnametag - I think.

Yes, there is definitely finality, at least where the main story thread is concerned. But if you want finality in what personally happens to all the alien races/planets/characters in the short term you get pretty much zilch.

...But I was far more satisfied by Xenosaga. Really? I was just confused after Xenosaga. Had to look stuff up on the internet to make sense of some things. Course it has been 6 years so I can't really remember it now. More Spoilery stuff and thoughts on ending I really can't imagine how they can continue the ME property after this one. All that lore wasted. Having slept on the ending it is a bit difficult to understand why tech and organics had to be fused. Hadn't brokering peace between the Geth and Quarian proven the two life-forms could co-exist? All that work uniting the galaxy for almost nothing. What does the military strength bar even affect then? Who dies before the final battle? Almost wish I would've straight up destroyed the Reapers now which is apparently the only ending with a hint of Shepard living. All in all the ending really was not what I expected, but at least it has got me thinking.

This is Fallout 3 all over again. They're giving us a bullshit ending, then they'll "fix" it with paid-for DLC.

Didn't they pretty much say that they'd have "some further adventures of Shepard in a future DLC"? Ugh. Ok, maybe I was premature in saying they weren't the cancer killing gaming.
