Someone on another forum "who the f*** is Haggar?"
Made me feel old, but it also made me feel sorry for them that they didn't experience the awesome early and mid 90s eras of video games.

Darnit. When I saw the tagline for "Haggar and Phoenix" I was like "Phoenix Wright?!! Bitchin'!!"

It's great to see the manliest moustache in the history of videogames making his comeback. And its introduction video is badass as well: I mean,he piledrives Thor! Darnit. When I saw the tagline for "Haggar and Phoenix" I was like "Phoenix Wright?!! Bitchin'!!" My thought was: "Well,I hope that by Phoenix they mean Jean Grey"...and luckily I was right.

I respectfully disagree. A hypercombo with Phoenix Wright stating "Objection!" would be undeniably cool.
But we've got Viewtiful Joe, Albert Wesker, Amaterasu from Okami, Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins, Dante and Trish coming in.

I played a hell of a lot of Final Fight 2 back in the day (though, oddly enough for my collection of SNES games, it was a Japanese Super Famicom version, complete with text I can't read).
I say it's about damn time Haggar showed up in a Capcom vs. Whatever game. Hell, he would've showed up in a 3D fighter several years ago, but poor reception got it canned and replaced with Capcom Fighting Evolution, which is even more poorly received.

You know, I love Haggar, he's an awesome character with a pretty neat story... But Final Fight really isn't what I'd consider a game that would be sad to miss. It's really just a standard beat 'em up and there are dozens like it.

Yeah, but it was THE standard beat-'em-up of the early 90's. There were other belt-scroll games before Final Fight (Renegade, Double Dragon, the arcade Ninja Gaiden, P.O.W.) ,but most of the games in the genre that came afterward (Streets of Rage, Rushing Beat, Undercover Cops) were mostly based on Capcom's formula. Saying that Final Fight was a standard beat-'em-up is like saying that Super Mario Bros. is a standard platformer.

Just like in Final Fight it looks like his lariat causes him a little bit of damage. At about 1:05 in this video, Wolverine gets tagged in and calls in Haggar to do his lariat assist and you can see his health drop by a little bit. I'm not sure if this is just when he's an assist but it seems like the developers went pretty far to make sure he played like his Final Fight counterpart. Saying that Final Fight was a standard beat-'em-up is like saying that Super Mario Bros. is a standard platformer. It doesn't hold up nearly as well as SMB though. Super Mario Bros is just as fun and awesome today as it ever was. Yet even when it was new I always found Final Fight to be pretty bland and only entertaining in very small bursts. I enjoyed the punch/kick button dynamic of Double Dragon (the arcade games) a lot more, the Konami beat-'em-ups have a loose, energetic gameplay style that Final Fight lacks, and Streets of Rage 2 has all the depth that Final Fight is so desperately in need of. I feel that Final Fight is a noteworthy game mainly because it laid down the groundwork for future greatness, but I don't think Final Fight itself is all that great.
