Last week I bought GTA IV: The Complete Edition. And little over two days ago noticed that the inside ring of the disc was already cracked. My brother noticed that his Halo Reach was also cracked and assumed that it might've been our Xbox 360 doing something to it. So I looked into it. After, playing some other games it seems like the new eco-friendly cases are doing this. Looking up online other people are sharing the same problem. forums.xbox.com/35408838/ShowPost.aspxwww.gamefaqs.com/boards/927749-xbox-360/57607275\Just thought, I'd stop by and warn you all. My solutions going to be using the a dvd wallet now. Had to install Halo Reach since thats the pricier game, and it seems like I'm gonna have to find a way to replace my GTA IV: The Complete Edition Already.

Yes, these flimsy pieces of shit will break and bend under the slightest pressure and sooooo many people crack their discs just removing them from the case. I deal with about a dozen of them every day and they snap and splinter and I hate them

I can't believe how poorly designed these are. They have holes in the one place they shouldn't have holes -- where the disc goes, making it easily exposed to dust, dirt, and debris -- and the parts holding the disc in place look somewhat poorly supported as a result.
Especially since, you know, a flimsy piece of plastic protecting a useless disc becomes a pile of completely useless waste anyway. Saving the environment? Not if you have to keep printing replacements!

The louder it is when you take it out, the more destructive it is on the disc itself. I find the only good cases are the ones that have that "web-like" pattern on. You push it down and it's a quiet and easy removal. This has actually been a problem for some time. I've always wondered why every fucking game has to have a different case design. And by case design I mean that stub that goes in the center of the disc. What's the name for that thing?

I use an enormous CD book for mine, so I'm glad I don't have to put up with this. I don't think I have any cracked discs... I should check, though. It's possible I have one or two. If I look later and find any, I'll make sure I check if they came from one of those God-damned retarded cases.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard of someone using that approach with their games. Very interesting. Guess it means you can have all generations within reach at all times.

I have a VERY hard time pulling the discs out of these new cases and I wouldn't be surprised if people are cracking them. I try to pull the disc out correctly but it sometimes doesn't budge and the whole disc starts to bend.
Kitten: is that Sonic plush toy the one where you can press his stomach and it does the Sega Scream (although not in Sonic's voice lol)?

Here are some pics of my game shelves from November. I only keep the CD's in the cases for Gamecube games (for obvious reasons). Everything else goes in the huge CD book I leave here - img213.imageshack.us/img213/652/dressertop.jpg I think that would more properly be called a CD tome at this point. I didn't even know they made them that big. Thing must weigh a ton.

God, I love looking at people's collections. Thanks so much for the pics. And you're a right son of a bitch for having that LTD JP edition of Valkyria Chronicles. I also didn't realize that there was that much Tron Bonne merchandise out there in the wide world.

I'd get something like gaming grimoire your packin' but it might be overkill at this point. Also, I guess it was lucky that until a few weeks ago I didn't have a place to put CDs apart from their original cases, that while looking for survival horror games I found a CD case plastered with Biohazard sympols. Musta been a sign from above. Or below, take your pick.

As long as you're careful, these cheaper/eco-friendlier cases should be fine (the Wii is using them now too). But they certainly won't stack like before. What I don't like is that the least amount of pressure against the actual case cover will cause it to bend around the plastic. But the bright side is that it's not as annoying as the switch during the MD days from plastic to paper.
Most of these cases are already terrible for manuals. All of them have clips that roughen up the manual. What I do hate about any of these Amaray cases (not the better-designed BD cases) is that if the manual is too far up or down, the back edges of the case will jam right into it. And if you close cases top-down, the manual will hang just enough to get caught and bent on the disc holding mold. It's just really bad design.
The only good aspect is that the knobby center of the disc holder normally doesn't leave an impression on the manual whereas the asterisk center of jewel cases often jut right into the manual.
