Now that you mention it, I'm surprised after Mass Effect that nobody's interested in making a Gears of War RPG

After replaying Mass Effect 2 as a Soldier, they had better enhance the Vanguard class even further in ME3. Hiding behind walls all the time is boring.

I'm okay with it. I found myself hiding a lot as a vanguard, too, because she was getting wrecked out in the open a lot.

But at least I had Charge to mix things up. As a Soldier, all I can do, Advanced Training powers like Slam notwithstanding, is make time slow down for a little while. To be honest, I have to ask why Concussive Blast returned, since the idea behind Heavy Weapons seems to make that ersatz rocket launcher obsolete.

Because it seemed to me (at least the way I played) that the game had a focus on using skills asap, hence the short cooldown times on all the abilities. If you could knock someone down, that much faster, it's a help.

It's funny you should mention the Vanguard, because it's the only class that made ME2 at all worth playing for me. Charge is pretty fun... dash into an enemy's face, blast it with a shotgun and/or melee it, kill anyone else nearby, then blast off again to the next target. It provides a nice forward momentum that no other class offers, actually leaping into the thick of battle instead of playing an elaborate game of hide and seek.

When I first played ME2, I played the Vanguard. That's why my opinion of the game was so high the first time.
I tried again, on Hardcore, but now Charge just wasn't that useful since nearly every enemy had shields that Charge couldn't penetrate. So I tried again as a Soldier, and found the game is surprisingly dull.

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised after Mass Effect that nobody's interested in making a Gears of War RPG Making a TPS with RPG elements is very time-consuming and tricky to implement, like how to handle stats with manual aim in shooters. Also, it's got to have something to do with the amount of asset creation and world building.

The vanguard's "charge" move was a lot of fun on normal, but when I did my insanity run with my vanguard, I quickly discovered how they were, by far, the worst class for that difficulty. None of their abilities damage shield/armor/barrier in a worthwhile way and the charge move loses any usefulness it had, as it just flings you into instant death, now. It made my insanity run pretty frustrating, especially before I could get my weapons upgraded - it didn't help that the shotgun in this game was a piece of shit (which is bizarre considering how overpowered it was in the first game). I play a ton of shooters on their highest difficulty and beat them relatively easily, but ME2 on insanity with vanguard was just obnoxious, it nearly lowered my opinion of the game... But I suppose giving multiple classes and offering so many difficulties can become rather difficult to balance.
I miss a few of the RPG elements, but I'd much rather have the game lean on the shooter side than the RPG side.

My favorite classes in ME2 were Sentinel and Infiltrator. Which is funny as I didn't really like either class in ME1, but they're lots of fun in 2.

The best thing about this thread is that FFXIII was so lame that a thread about a possible sequel shifts into ME2 discussion before the second page.

Someone should link this thread to Square.

Well, there is the problem that there is absolutely nothing to talk about. It's a domain name, and that's it. Plus, there are only a small handful of users on the forum who like FFXIII, myself included, so there's really not a whole lot to discuss.
That said, playing Mass Effect 2 as a Soldier, my prospects for 3 have gone down significantly. It's rather disheartening to realize whatever fun I had the first time was apparently a fluke.

Soldier is the most basic class of ME2. It's for people who pretty much just want a third person cover shooter with as little power usage as possible since all the class powers are passive ammo upgrades, the Adrenaline shot, or Concussive Blast.
