I'm so glad I don't have to go to the army (thank you, Dysphasia, you're good for something!). I hate being forced to do things I'm not interested in, like learning (mandatory) Swedish.

It's possible to avoid conscription in some countries if you are a conscientious objector, which is a fancy way of saying "my personal beliefs or religion forbid me from killing people." Usually they have you perform community service instead.

I live in southern California, and I've never fired a gun in my life (i'm turning 21 in about a month). I held a gun for the first time in my life about a year or two ago (a magnum, I think), and it was really heavy. I would like to go to a shooting range at some point, because I think it would be interesting to learn how to fire different types of guns, but as of now I have yet to do so.

I live in California also and the most I've fired is a BB gun.

I'd rather do community prison or heck, go to jail than be trained to kill for my countries retarded government and it's illegal wars. I'm sure prison would be traumatic but hey! I wouldn't be a trained killer!

Err, actually...
I mean, I dunno how it is up there in Irish prisons but...I'm pretty sure prison here can make anyone way more batshit and dangerous than watching over a giant poppy field in Afghanistan.

Yeah, American prisons are all about refining the art of crime. I'd like to see a comparison done between active military duty and maximum security prison terms in the US, and see which has the lower fatality rate.

given the choice between a level 5 prison and conscription as a m249 gunner in the marines, i think I'd take the marines.
now sweeten the deal with a stint @ a level 1 prison instead of level 5, and you may have yourself a deal. unless the military has a really good counter offer, anyway. maybe help pay down this college debt? chance to travel perhaps? throw me a bone here, man!

Well here's an idea: Chosen does his training and I'll go stab somebody at the train station. After I complete my sentence, we'll measure how dangerous either of us is! It'll be like an episode of Deadliest Warrior: Finnish Soldier vs. Puertorican Ñeta!

It'll be like an episode of Deadliest Warrior: Finnish Soldier vs. Puertorican Ñeta! on the phone with my lawyer and agent right now discussing the feasibility of this as a reality series. sounds like there's going to be a few legal hiccups, but i've seen these guys do wonders before.
