Never played the original, but this looks promising. It seems to have decent visuals.

If their Haunted House revival is any indication, I think we have reason to be skeptical. They're doing a Haunted House revival too? Infogrames Atari certainly don't know what the heck they're doing right now The Haunted House revival came out a while ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haunted_House_%28video_game%29 (scroll down) It wasn't too well received.

I think it's telling that people on this forum of all places didn't even realize the new Haunted House existed. It's a shame, because normally I'd be totally down with seeing classic Atari IPs given a shiny new paint job and brought back into the spotlight, but nobody at InfogrAtari seems to understand what made the original fun. Never played the original... I would strongly recommend that you try it. It's really crazy.

I've seen the new Haunted House on shelves at Best Buy, but I didn't hear much good about it, so I didn't bother to check it out.

So Giantbomb has a quick look up: www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-road-show-yars-revenge/17-3766/Sum up: Six levels, multiple difficulties, challenge modes Score multiplier (you got a little bar it runs down kills guys before it`s empty to increase multiplication pretty standard) Real nice looking (getting a Miyazaki vibe as advertised, personally) Bunch of weapons (standard shot, lock-on shot, charge laser) First level, boss included, is about 15 minutes Shield ability is pretty awesome (good fanservice right there) I now have significant anticipation for this title. It looks like it might be too slow or lenient, but they do show off a hardcore mode where you take tons of damage and only have 50 HP instead of 100 HP, and it was only the first level and things were looking a little hectic at times. I do hope that the amount of messages popping up decreases as the game goes on because on the whole the dialogue looked pretty worthless, and I hope that, naturally, it gets crazier and more hectic the further your progress. Not exactly on Sin and Punishment`s caliber, but it still looks like a good time. A really pretty good time. With wings. And four arms. I am extremely forgiving on rail-shooters though, and giving the comments on the quick look I imagine this is going to get a lot of hate from the majority of gamers.

The more I see of this, the less interested I am. You know, if they really wanted to be original, they'd have done a straight adaptation of this. Those are Yars. Generic four-armed anime girl is not a Yar, I don't care what they say. And that's just for starters. And on the subject of the new Haunted House, I played the demo and it left me completely cold. I'd much rather play the original any day, because the new one was so generic that it wasn't funny - which is what it's looking like this so-called "Yars' Revenge" is going to be.

Honestly, I'm digging the style they went with for this reboot. It's not true to the original at all, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I'm more optimistic for Yars given how little it seems to play like the original. They could have taken the easy route and just made it the same game with 3D visuals, kinda like Hasbro's Pong reboot in the late 90s. I realize this raises the question of "why Yars?", however.
Having said that, too many reboots this generation totally miss the point of the original game or are just not fun to play in the least. Climax's Rocket Knight immediately comes to mind. I'm definitely not jumping on this without having played a demo or watching a walkthrough of it first.
