Whoever figured out how to finish the first Tower of Druaga game was not a human, but a GOD. Even with an FAQ the difficulty was Satanic

There have been "Tower of Druaga" references and cameos in quite a few Namco games. I know the Wikipedia article on the game lists a bunch of them. Yeah when I was playing Mr. Driller Drill Land one of the world's is Nightmare of Druga, darn hard to play if you don't know Japanese though. (It's Driller w/ RPG elements and items) Still a neat way to cross over into another game.

Huh, didn't the Arcade cab have hints on it? I mean, it would have to considering how obscure some of the methods to get the treasures were. I know that the Namco compilation had an insert that told you how to get every treasure.

Is it normal for higher levels (30 and above) to be completely dark in Tower of Druaga?

Forget it, I beat the game. I beat the sequel too while I was at it.

Forget it, I beat the game. I beat the sequel too while I was at it. Was it...uh...good? I kinda want to just for the experience, but I never got past level 2.

Tower of Druaga: I never understood what made ToD a classic, probably 'cause I never played it before. After cheating my way through with MAME, I can now understand why frustrated masochists from the pre-Japanese RPG era liked this game. This was as close as they were gonna get to dragons, swordplay and tons of treasure before Dragon Quest came out. Every treasure servers its purpose (well most of them) and it's cool and all when you aren't able to advance after 30 rooms or getting sent back 40 rooms just because you missed a treasure in an earlier level. Thank god for cheat.dat + save states + fast forward + gamefaqs + MAME Return of Ishtar.... well, it looks a lot better, but it doesn't seem like they knew what they were doing with 128 rooms chock full of enemies that drain your little RPG HP like it was water. Enemies don't seem to care if you are shooting them or not, and in this game if they don't care then it doesn't hit them. So many rooms that they had to give you passwords... an arcade game, with passwords. This game filled the much needed subconscious rpg fix with lots of magic spells and "experience" system, but by this time I guess Dragon Quest was already out *cackling out loud independently from my body*. These games are the Milon Secret Castle's of the arcade sk33n3.
