I remember seeing an article a long time ago about the Druaga series (Return of Ishtar, Tower of Druaga, Quest of Ki, etc) and I think it was here, was it removed or something? or am I crazy?

God I hope not, those games make Hydlide look like Legend of Zelda.

Perhaps you're thinking of 1up, I saw one there awhile back when the PS2 game was released.

The 1up article is kind of lacking if you ask me. It's decidedly negative, so it almost feels like it's going into it expecting to scare the reader away from the games rather than give them legitimate information to base a purchase on.
Call me crazy, but I have a fondness for the Druaga series. I think Kurt makes a good point in the Namco X Capcom article in that since America didn't see Druaga until Namco Museum Vol. 3 most people simply aren't going to "get" it. You really need to look at the series with perspective and the right frame of mind. As brutal as it can be, Tower of Druaga CAN be a lot of fun once you get the hang of it, and Nightmare of Druaga is actually quite a fine game (although it's more of a Fushigi no Dungeon game than a Druaga title; hey, Fushigi no Dungeon would be a good idea for an article too). I just got The Blue Crystal Rod yesterday, coincidentally, but I can't tell what the hell I'm doing. I suck at 3D maze RPGs.

Ah yes yes, that is it. Since HG101 is the only site with balls to make articles about weird games I ended up thinking it came from here.

1UP.com covers niche games pretty often, actually.

Not really. They started doing that early this year, probably thanks to Parish and his love for HG101.

The Druaga cameo in Baten Kaitos has me interested in one day playing Tower of Druaga. It's a shame I never played it as a kid though, as that cameo would have gone from being neat, to be a "wow! Cool!!" moment.
It also reminds me of a section in the PC adventure game "Eternam" as near the end of the game, you walk through a screen based on the company's previous game (I forget what it was) and I believe the enmeis you kill in that room as are the actual sprites of the player characters as well.

Don't forget, Tales of Destiny had an entire dungeon by the same name with a similar design.

There have been "Tower of Druaga" references and cameos in quite a few Namco games. I know the Wikipedia article on the game lists a bunch of them.

All I know about Druaga are cameos of weapons in Soul Calibur. I bet its totally inferior to DRAGON BUSTER though....

Man, that Druaga dungeon in Tales was AWESOME. It had a ton of great equipment, too.

Dragon Buster was pretty lame to me. It's way too repetitive (yes, even in comparison to Druaga).
