The latest 2D shooter from G.rev (Senko no Ronde, Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta) with the name Seisou Kouki Strania is coming for XBox Live Arcade in Japan on spring 2011 and it looks very nice. Not something revolutionary but at least it's a welcome entry at the shmup library of Xbox 360. More info at the official site: www.grev.co.jp/str/index.htmlTrailer: And so we haven another shmpup for the spring's wishlist along with Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury (F*CK YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!) and New Yarn's Revenge (which I hope it will be good).

I'm very much looking forward to this myself-- this'll be the first G.rev shooter I'll get to play. Style really reminds me of both 80's and current Gundam at the same time, and it seems fun to boot.

This either looks less danmaku than it did before, or I'm remembering some other game. Looks pretty rad!

Apparently this came out on the 16th. I got it this morning (800 points) and so far it's fun, although I only had about 5 minutes to play it.
One thing I really love is that you can bump into background objects briefly and it doesn't destroy you (continuously bumping into them results in damage).
I haven't figured out the weapons system yet (i.e., which "slot" gets replaced when you pick something up), but you have three rotating slots for weapons and use two of the weapons at one time. Doubling up on one weapon type appears to enable more powerful attacks (two swords gives you a tornado slash attack).
What I played of the second level was pretty fun because it's a corridor shootout with little hallways to duck into and use to sneak behind or flank the enemy.
I'm a pretty casual shooting game fan, so I'd love to hear what veterans think.

Woah, I lost track of this one, thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out. I'm pretty sure it came out today, though, like acidonia mentioned. I'd be really surprised if I didn't notice it when I was checking through the demos last week.

Bombs are boring. The explosions they cause are not.

It's out now, and there's also an English trailer.

It IS cool. It isn't danmaku at all. Nor a real 'memoriser' like R-type, though you'll need to learn boss attack patterns. Really fun. The kind of STG/shmup that really isn't made anymore, but glitzy like a modern title. I still get a kick out of the boss explosions-- all the little bits raining down into the river valley when you blow up the first one is worth the price of admission.

I just wish they'd release Under Defeat on XBLA, too. Despite mostly preferring horizontal shooters, that's actually my favorite shmup ever.
Also, I bought this day one, but haven't quite gotten around to playing it, yet. I've been in a more "casual" mood, playing a bunch of DeathSpank and considering getting Torchlight.

I'm enjoying it a lot. I'd mentioned about picking up the weapons -- you have to be careful, but it shows you a line going to the hand of your robot that will pick the new weapon up; problem is that it's kind of a bitch keeping it straight during the heat of battle, especially on hard. Most of the weapons can be leveled up to at least a second level (not sure about any with a third level). Also, racking up kills with the same weapon increases the "dan" you have with that weapon, and you get more points at each new dan. There's an achievement to max out your proficiency on all weapons in one game, jeez.
You have a shield that you can activate after maxing out a gauge; under certain conditions (attacking while in contact with the enemy, which depletes the shield faster) it looks like you get a bonus multiplier as well.
Like most shooters I'm probably not going to bother going for the achievements. Still, it's a ton of fun and it will especially be fun for Gundam fans.

I wonder how interesting Side Vower will be as DLC. I would get this game but I have no 360 ;_; I just wish they'd release Under Defeat on XBLA, too. I love Under Defeat too, I always thought it would be interesting to play as the Union or something as a different point of view (Kind of like Side Vower from Strania). Though I have no idea what kind of weapons the Empire would harbor, if any.

This looks great, but why only on the 360? I want it on the PS3 too..
