So I'm chyming in yet again to bring to your attention the wonders of downloadable games services that you're probably missing out on. This time, it's an XBLA exclusive.
So... this game... I downloaded it after looking at a few jizz-splatteringly amazing screenshots. I hadn't heard anything about it. But it's not just a beautiful game. It's really complex and lots of fun.
The game bombards you with a solid hour or so of tutorial explaining all of the games many mechanics to you. Here's just some of the basics of the gameplay that'll hopefully influence you toward buying it.
So you play as a dual entity: a girl and a dragon. The girl uses an assortment of punches and kicks about on par with a base-level beat'em up, and the dragon plays more like a shmup craft with various types of breath shots. You romp around on a Zelda-style map in overhead perspective, fighting enemies, buying skills, collecting things: standard game stuff.
But there's a lot of twists that make the game unique. In particular, there's the Wakfu/Stasis element. Wakfu is kind've like the Force. It exists in all things. The girl, being alive, can consume the life force (Wakfu) from the living things around her. The dragon, being more of a spectral being, can infuse the living things around it with life. When you give/take enough life from certain creatures or plants, something may happen. For instance, if you absorb a particular type of fruit as the girl, she gets health back, but if you give enough live force to the same type of fruit, it will explode, damaging all the enemies around it.
But trust me, I'm not even scratching the surface here. There's also a really complicated teleporting mechanic, magic, puzzles... it's mind boggling. And the plot is quite engaging too, and the haunting soundtrack compliments the visuals quite nicely.
In short, this game is only 800 MS points right now. Run, don't walk, to XBox Live Marketplace and get it, because it's amazing.
EDIT: Apparently, this is also a spinoff of a forthcoming MMORPG.
