So, I came across this game when I was in a comic shop a few weeks ago, passed it up, and then decided to buy again when picking up some MTG cards. I played for a couple hours tonight, and man, this game is fucking awesome. I played it when I was a kid, which was what prompted me to get it again, and I'm glad that I didn't end up skipping on it any longer.
I grabbed the N64 version, but I hear there are a few others. Are they any good? Is the sequel for PS2 worth picking up? Anyone else a big fan of this "series?" I really wish they'd port this game to XBLA, it really deserves it.
I really suck at puzzle games, but sometimes I get addicted to them, and I can see myself putting quite a few more hours into this one. It's very difficult, but it's really rewarding when you do well and the complexity being greater than that of something like Tetris really helps alleviate the feeling of repetition.

I rented the N64 version and was in love with the concept and soundtrack, but the game is just way too fast-paced for me at times, so I just play it on Practice mode. Later on, I bought the PC port, but it's just not as polished as the N64 version.
I tried purchasing the PS2 sequel (Aqua Aqua) but the disc was scratched beyond recognition (thanks a bunch, Gamestop.com). I also tried getting my hands on the Dreamcast upgrade, Wetrix+, but haven't gotten that one to boot, either (may be my fault; crappy CD burn probably). I do own the N64 cart now, though, and the music is still pretty awesome.
A challenge for those that own it: in Classic mode, deliberately drop a bomb through a hole (triggering "Re-Bomb") and try to survive from there.
Also, it's long been a goal of mine as a sound designer to try to figure out how the hell they created that announcer voice.

I've heard the sequel wasn't as good possibly?
Played Wetrix years ago on the PC - quite a unique puzzle title.

The sequel isn't as good, different music and graphics. A new gameplay system (evaporate water in different places on the board to get bingo lines on a board for multipliers), no alternative game modes and a really annoying forced tutorial. Dreamcast/PC ports had different music, probably both higher resolution than the Nintendo 64 version. Game Boy Color version... Well, you don't want to play that.

I've heard of this game, but never did play it. I'm into puzzle games though, so perhaps I should check it out. It seems to be fairly cheap to buy the cartridge alone.

It's a neat puzzler with a great first impression thanks to the music, the visuals and the frantic gameplay. Unfortunately it's depending a bit too much on luck and it's really short on content, so except for an occasional play every now and then, I'd rather play Tetrisphere when it comes to trippy puzzlers on the N64.

Are there any games like Wetrix that are a bit longer and easier? I'm thinking about picking up the PS2 version because I hear it has a story mode. I kinda want a puzzle game like this to just chill out while playing.

Oh hell yeah! I got a copy a couple of months ago and have been enjoying the hell out of it. I like puzzle games that are on the frantic side and it really hits the spot for me, despite the flaws.
Can anyone comment on the Dreamcast version? I can only assume that a slightly higher res would be a bonus, and I'm curious as to what extras there are.
