Well, the game is out in Japan, so a few gameplay videos are starting to pop up, if anyone cares enough about this enough to watch.
I'm not especially impressed from what I see, but I suppose it was slightly amusing that the boss of the stage in the video seems to be one of the old bosses from Gradius Gaiden, being piloted by the main girl from Tokimeki Memorial.

Wow, I'm confused. Is this supposed to be a shmup? Looks more like a see n' say with lasers.

Is it just me or is it less attractive than Gradius V?

If this is supposed to be a "funny" or "cute" parody type schmup I don't understand why that stage looks so generic and boring. Parodius was always completely over-the-top and awesome, while this looks like it has no personality whatsoever. Except someone is talking throughout the entire stage. Maybe she says really funny things or something... Though I know absolutely nothing about this franchise so I may be completely off here.

It was much more restrained, humor-wise, than any of the Parodius games.

could it be possible that this game is an attempt to pander to the crowd of neckbeards that buys anything with tiny girls in it

That's what I'm thinking; maybe the humor in the game will shine through when we, you know, actually see it in English. Anyway, I watched an entire playthrough in addition to that video, as spoileriffic as that is. There's Konami shooter and general Konami fanservice out the ass, nice gameplay mechanics (burst attacks, charge shots, etc.), and interesting 3P multiplayer (boss rush and the second being "one person loses all lives, game over for everyone" score attack it seems). Also, I will admit: the girls, designed by the Sgt. Frog guy range from simply cute to fapfapfapfap. However, I'll agree that the game itself looks kinda boring and slow-paced, not to mention easy and uninspired... I'll still consider it, though, if the price is cheap enough at launch/has dropped.

As a huge fan of Parodius (one of my favourite shmups) and Mine Yoshizaki (the creator of Keroro Gunsou who's rensponsible for the character design of Otomedius) I was looking forward Otomedius Georgeous. When I finally played it till the end I was a little disappointed. It's not that I didn't enjoyed the game (it was faithful to the Parodius formula) but I wouldn't call it something memorable as Parodius (expecially since it's not as wacky as Parodius and apart from the moe festival of the female pilots and bosses the design of the stages and enemies are a little generic). Not a bad game but not a must-have either (exept if you're a shmup collector and/or moe-holic). Still, I liked it and that's why I'll also play the sequel.

There's also a Special Edition listed (http://www.amazon.com/Otomedius-Excellent-Special-Xbox-360/dp/B0051MMF6Y/) but since there's no price, it's unclear if this is a duplicate entry of the CE or if it's another package.

Cool, a fucking fetish pillow. I wish I could tear Konami a new one. If you can't make a proper game in the Gradius/Parodius vein, at least don't reanimate the fucking corpse with this stupid moe garbage and mediocre design.
