Konami: Contra 4, the first game in the series with a black character, is a massive flop and decried by many as a "glorified fan game."
Not to mention Silent Hill 4, where one of the Victim ghosts is a black man who had a bizarrely accusatory bio; in life, he "was a coward without his marijuana."

Contra 4 sold 280,000 copies and holds an 83 (better than Hard Corps: Uprising, Contra Rebirth, Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra) on MetaCritic. I've also heard mostly positive reception from fans.
For a cheaply outsourced game, that's actually really fucking good.

In Devil May Cry 4, Gloria, an ass-kicking black lady shows up whomping folks left and right. But then, at the end, we fight out she's really the white-as-hell Trish, and she's happy she doesn't have to be disguised anymore! The propaganda that Capcom is trying to lay down is that all black people want to be white on the inside! Check this shit: the game is about how the white man keeps the black brother down. Now what do you call that!?
