The only thing I remember about Silverhawks was that people could breathe in space, in addition to their fabric flapping around and speaking normally in a vacuum. That bothered me more than anything else for some reason.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that preferred the Silverhawks. I always dug how Mon-Starr looked like a cat that went through a blender.
Honestly, I love how camp 80s cartoons were. Most of them had the most ridiculous premises and were obviously vehicles to sell mountains of merchandise, which is what made them so awesome. Even if modern cartoons are better overall, especially in terms of character development, I miss the days when a cartoon could be a 30 minute, campy toy commercial. For once I want to see a return to ridiculous plots without the need to moralize outside of a 10 second PSA at the end of every episode.
Anyway, I like what I see of this reboot so far. It's better than that proposed Thundercats reboot where they were a traveling rock band that transformed into the titular heroes.

That, and the villains were more interesting...Mon-Starr (and his transformation sequence) was pretty awesome. I agree it was awesome, but I preferred Mumm-Ra's since he gets his power from Ancient Spirits of Evil and the Monstar one felt like a rip off. I thought Monstar's lines when transforming where more chessy as well.

Snarboo: WTF!? Were they trying to make Josie and the Thundercats or something? Jeez. I grew up back then so I'm more tolerant of 80's cartoons, but damn some of them were shameless. Other ones would have occasionally mature episodes that were pretty well written. Before his recent cycle of starting then abandoning comics projects, J. Michael Strazinski (sp) did a live-action show called Captain Power that was shamelessly a toy tie in...but dealt with war and death realistically despite the sci-fi setting. It also ended on a bitch of a cliffhanger. brianc: Don't get me wrong, Mumm-Ra was still pretty cool. I just thought that Mon-Starr looked like he could tear shit up in his regular form (and, similar to what Snarboo said, his face looked like a cat that got in a blender, which was teh funney ;p). That, and flying around on a squid is pretty funny, and pre-dates the popularization of Lovecraft in kids' media (unless you count Muppet Babies). The Thundercats & Silverhawks outtakes sound clips that popped up on the web about 10 years ago are hilarious. If you've never heard them, do it now. Hearing Lion-O say "shut up, you FUCK." to Snarff is comedy gold. Drunk Panthro was also cool. web.archive.org/web/19980420051041/http://soundamerica.com/sounds/cartoons/Thundercats-Silverhawks/The only thing I remember about Silverhawks was that people could breathe in space, in addition to their fabric flapping around and speaking normally in a vacuum. That bothered me more than anything else for some reason. They had their organs removed and shit, so they're pretty much robocop with metal cutoff shirts & exposed arm meat. They'd have these little mask thingies pop out of their metal hair and over their face when they were flying around in space, for whatever reason (keep their eyes in their sockets, I guess). It doesn't explain how the different alien guys were riding on space motorcycles in the vacuum though.

So, the furry community must be in heaven. Could Thundercats displace Sonic and company? I wonder what they think about the Thundercats.

The new Thundercats reminds me a bit of the He-Man reboot that aired a decade ago, which was pretty entertaining as far as I remember, but got canceled due to low toy sales (it was Mattel's fault for releasing nothing but minor variations of the same He-Man and Skeletor figures). I don't remember much about Thundercats (even when it reran on Toonami) except that it was one of those shows where it had a cool intro but the actual episodes were underwhelming. Panthro was cool though.

What really surprises me is something I didn't know about until while ago is that apparently there was going to be a CGI Thundercats movie at one point. It got cancelled, but there's still a trailer.
The CGI's nice, but man, Lion-O is a cunt in this. Like, more than usual.
Also, I was born pretty much way after the whole marketing tie-in cartoon thing had died off, so I missed out on stuff like Transformers and GI Joe. I hear the revival of GI Joe they did on Adult Swim is pretty nice, but I never watched the original series, so I'd probably be missing something. Also, I totally need to watch Beast Wars.

Wow, that Lion-O in the trailer...didn't seem much like Lion-O O.o;
EDIT: Ok, just watched the trailer/preview in the opening post. Interesting, but its also confusing. Without having read the articles, it seems to imply its both a reboot and a sequel there a reference to pevious thundercats having defeated mumm-ra and theya re on 3rd earth). However from other links in the thread, it seems its a reboot.
Not sure I like the teen age look of Lion-O, but then thats probably the old grumpy in me saying "Its not the same as before! it must be bad make it the same!" lol
Also, was the king voiced by the original Lion-o? It (kind of, a little bit) sounded like him.
Oh yes and people that don't like He-Man are bad people. He-Man is awesome. His cartoon is also awesome. (and I do speak as both a child of the 80s that grew up with He-Man and an adult that re-watched the series on pay TV again a few years back)

I still get a shiver down my spine when I see Adam transform on the old show. He-Man is the bomb diggity.
