Selling my MvC3 before the price plumbs.
Last time I did the same with SF4 before SSF4 and ended earning money.

Yeah, I'm considering Gamestop's Trade 2 Buy One Pre-Order for Free deal, since MvC3 is on it as a trade-in (before its value plummets). I just don't really want to get rid of anything else. XD

Capcom are geniuses in terms of making money off this franchise. They released a sequel to one of their most beloved games a decade later for 60 dollars and made tons of sales off of casual players, comic fans, and hardcore fans. Now I know some of you said "It's Capcom, I'll wait for the next version" and I guess congratulations you were right, but historically this is NOT how they treated their VS. series games, so myself and many others were quick to buy MVC3 and assume that any additions would be made through DLC. Now here is how I look at the recent success of games like SF4 and MVC3: There are a good amount of sales from people who are are into these series and have been playing them for years, and then there is a much larger amount of sales from people who thought they were awesome at SF and MVC in the days before online play when they could beat up their siblings and friends from down the block who did not even own the game. They pick up the new game, play online, find out they suck, and then stop caring about any additional versions. Enter MVC3, to sum it it up: this game is retarded. I'm sure a lot of you know that MVC2 is not a well-balanced game (but it actually is well-balanced amongst the god-tier characters, and its a lot of fun to set up matches with low-tier characters). MVC3 has some characters that are definitely a bit better than the rest of the cast, but for the most part nearly all of the characters are competitive. What makes this game stupid then, is it's ridiculous comeback system: X-Factor. The amount of damage you can do with X-Factor is absolutely ridiculous. It is meant to give players a chance to still win after something catastrophic happens like having 2 of their characters taken out at once. But really, that is part of the game, and part of the risk of calling out assist characters and why you can't just do it randomly. But fine, let's say that happens and they use x-factor, they kill your characters in 4-hit combos with insane speed and frame advantage, now things are even again, woo-hoo. Except that is not how things always work out. Let's say you have an opponent who is around your skill level - you fight for 60 seconds on the clock, you are both down to your last character. Now what? Say goodbye to any traditional fighting game values and all the back and forth mind-games that happen throughout the match. Activate level 3 X-Factor and whoever hits the other person first wins! Awesome! And then there is Dark Phoenix, if you are not familiar with Dark Phoenix then watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2W5AUmFqDY Take note that this is early footage, I didn't feel like digging around but more recent vids would show just how easy it is for her to hit you. There are ways to avoid her but most good players are going to get her out on the field. She isn't impossible to beat but it is very easy to instantly have everything you worked for erased, regardless of how good you did before. I am accustomed to dealing with things that sometimes feel "unfair" in fighting games but MVC3's X-Factor and Dark Phoenix just fuck you over SO QUICKLY that it isn't worth dealing with when I can just play some game that isn't retarded. So now they make Ultimate MVC3 and it is already clear that X-Factor has a smaller effect on damage and I don't know much about Dark Phoenix changes yet other than the fact that she can now only perform one action in the air (in MVC3 she can keep shooting homing fireballs at you that deal massive chip damage and then teleport behind you just as one is about to hit for a very ambiguous situation that usually involves you dying.) So, myself and the other people who love Marvel Vs Capcom games will most likely buy UMVC3 if it turns out to not be so damn scrubby. Speaking of which, I do want to point at that there are huge skill gaps between MVC3 players. In general, a good player will still always beat a noob, but it is the overall frustration of having everything that you worked for wiped out instantly by X-Factor or Dark Phoenix that makes the game so damn not fun to play. So basically, UMVC3 will still sell to all of us who really wanted a new MVC game and can still see hope for the game with certain changes made to it, and all the people who bought the original release due to nostalgia or thinking they would be awesome at it without investing time in it were never going to buy it anyway, much like SSF4.

I wish they'd included Squirrel Girl. But I guess she's just too strong. She'd pretty much have to be god tier. Oh yeah, Siliconera's reporting disc release only. No DLC upgrade for the previous version. Disc release will be 40 bucks. Personally, I think people are silly to be upset. If it launches at 40, it'll be 20 in a few months, which is probably less than they'd charge for DLC anyway. And then you'll have an actual disc.

I sometimes wonder how many people (including in this forum) actually pay attention to the rule and system changes made between versions and not just on roster additions.

I'd wager that most people aren't hardcore fighting fans, they just enjoy playing the games for fun. I couldn't begin to tell you what's different between Super SFIV and Arcade Edition, and I honestly don't care. It's just nice to play it.
Though I do have to wonder...They're calling it Ultimate MvC3, and yet there are no characters from the Marvel Ultimate universe.

The worst part is that a bunch of you morons complaining about this are going to buy it, anyway, then get even more pissed when another one happens and still feel entitled to complain about Capcom when you're throwing your money at them. Which makes Capcom the videogame equivalent of the Spider Man comic book series.

Shit the price already plummeted, well at least I got enough for psn Limbo.
PD: I must be the only person who is happy about getting more characters without waiting ages or having to adapt another system with his gimmicks.

Didn't Capcom already say that there wouldn't be any more content for MvC3 because it was "in the bag"? They had one costume pack and the two DLC characters (who came with the limited edition, so they weren't really DLC), then acted like the whole game was a huge commercial failure. Now they pull this shit?

Ono claimed the lack of dlc was because things were still in shambles over what had happened in Japan concerning the earthquake that hit. Because before the release of the game they'd claimed they'd be able to pump out dlc nearly every week. I think the earthquake really did throw a wrench in their plan for dlc, and likewise afterwords they didn't know what to do. Sadly, they went with a dumb decision and announced a revision to a game less than half a year after the game was announced. I mean I was expecting a revision, but just not this soon. I mean we can say it wasn't expected 'cuz they'd never done this with their crossovers, because even before the games release date Seth was dropping hints about how he'd love to do a 'Super' version for this game.
