Says he's working on an RPG for the PS3, so maybe this is just something he made while working on the big project. I don't see how you can have him work simultaneously on two large project, especially now that he's probably cut off from alotta resources that Capcom used to give him. If anything this is just something to tide fans over while he works on his other project.

Don't cancel it straight away, Yuji Naka did the same thing with Prope and it turned out that their game, Ivy the Kiwi?, was really good fun.
