Over the years, plenty of Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Front Mission, and countless other games in a series have been made. They include some of the best games ever made along with some of the worst. As I look to go into the field of game design, I often wonder what would REALLY appeal to the fans instead of just projected estimates. Take Mario for example. There's been the classic platformer, then an RPG, then a racing game, and so on (correct me if I got this in the wrong order).
Anyways, what would you suggest for the next game in your favorite series? More characters? Better graphics? Because I'm sure we have countless ideas for how to make a good game into an awesome game.
Take Megaman. Maybe they could supplement a setting for how the basic plasma weapon works. You know, maybe to where it fires three outwards shots at once or the damage of three shots concentrated into one.

Mostly I just want to see Shin Megami Tensei 4. Or 5 depending on your opinion of Strange Journey. I like Persona and all but I don't want it to become "The Persona Series."

Put a job system in every series. My work is done.

The next Half-Life game should have more unique weapons. I'm tired of the best weapon being just a rocket launcher. Give us more of the crazy shit from HL1 - a strider cannon or a hunter flechette gun would be cool, but why not go above and beyond, give us back the Gluon and the hive hand, give us more of the improvised weapons that an MIT grad would come up with. Coil guns, man! Give us a pistol-like weapon that can fire nails, screws, nuts, basically random metal scrap at huge velocities!

A Bioware game with realistic, functional, yet also visually stunning environments. Is it possible?

I have an idea for a Shin Megami Tensei RTS, though a lot of details for the interface and system have been borrowed from Impossible Creatures. As for alignment, have multiple missions that steer you one way or the other, depending on which one is completed.

I want a 2D Mario game that comes with a fully functional level editor.
I know, Romhackers have long since made this a reality, but that's just all the more reason why Nintendo should get on it. Hell, they've already got March of the Minis! I don't need anything fancier than that, just put that same interface in a proper Mario platforming game.

More games can run at a solid 60 frames per second. XD

Could we have Metal Gear 4 but without 70% of the cutscenes and instead 50% more gameplay?

You mean something along the lines of what Bangaioh Spirits did?

Oh my god, yes! Just like that!
Maybe offer some kind of online infrastructure for sharing levels... but also retain the option to turn level data into a screechy audio file, cause that was awesome!

I would make a Contra game with lots of branching paths through each level, along with multiple hidden levels to find. Contra: Hard Corps was on the right track with this, but I would expand on the concept so that potentially you could have tons of different areas to explore in the same game, each time you play. It could be kind of like Metal Slug 3 in a way.

One thing I didn't like about Hard Corps was how alternate paths could end the game two or three whole levels early.

And I would have perferred it if it had lead to a full set of levels instead of ending the game so early. Made me feel like all of my effort to play well in the beginning had been a waste of time.
