Any word if the PS3 version might be better since they're apparently quite different?

Well like I said in my second post (which people apparently didn't read), wikipedia says the DS version sold 500,000 units. Which isn't a runaway success, but is by no means terrible in Japan. Might have been less than they were hoping though.

To the broader question: poor sales don't necessarily mean a game sucks. But they do often imply it. Especially for a game with big names like Level 5 and Ghibli behind it. If it flopped sales-wise, that would imply bad word-of-mouth and/or reviews, leading to poor sales. It's not the only explanation, but it is the most likely one.

The PS3 version is supposed to be totally different, and it's possible it will do a lot better.

DS game sales are terrible in Japan at the moment. I think it was that that killed nino kuni rather than it being a poor game. Solatorobo sold terrible in Japan as well and that's far from a bad game. I also think most of those 500,000 sales in japan were made when the games price bottomed out to bargain bin prices after a few days on sale.

If this turns out to be a pipe dream (i.e., Layton vs. Phoenix or Ni No Kuni getting a release here), I'm going to go berserk like Billy Jack. There's just been too much bad news this year to count for weeaboos like me.

I... wish I had a reason to vote? All of those games don't really do anything for me. So yeah. I support them being released, but I'm not going to die with the lack thereof.

Get the license to do something I want to play, like say, Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3.

I'd rather get these cuz ZZT3 is apparently really easy to play with a translation guide. I'd think Professor Layton x Phoenix Wright would be downright unplayable if not in english. Hmm, makes me sad thinking ZZT4 isn't coming out either.

Apparently, you haven't been paying attention to the freakin' war we're having to wage to get big-name titles to come Stateside. Ever hear of a little something called Operation Rainfall? Solatorobo is a miracle, man; people were writing it off before NoE and XSEED stepped in. And while Megaman Legends 3 was a lost cause to begin with, there's no excuse for us not getting Ace Attorney Investigations 2.

If it's on Wii, DS, or PSP, you can pretty much forget it at this point. If it's on 3DS, it's a dicey proposition, as companies are delaying (and, yes, cancelling) games because the system didn't transmute lead into gold like everyone imagined. And if you don't have a PS3 or X360...then I'm sorry. I'm really, earnestly, Doctor Who sorry.
