I've just bought an original copy of Gokujo Parodius Deluxe Pack (PS1 version, NTSC-J) and it doesn't work on my PS2. I have a european modded PS2 (the slim version, I bought it after my original PS2 stopped reading games) and I checked on it games from all regions (PAL/NTSC-U/NTSC-J PS2 games, and PAL/NTSC-U PS1 games) which all worked just fine. This game is the first NTSC-J PS1 game I'm playing on this PS2 and it doesn't work. Why does NTSC-J PS2 games working and NTSC-J PS1 games doesn't? it make no sense. I checked the game on emulator and it worked fine so the disc is OK. What could be the problem?

What is the problem, exactly? I know certain old games have issues, but at least they boot (like, Gradius 1 in the Gradius Deluxe Pack runs at half speed.)

The game doesn't load at all It give me this browser screen where I can choose to check my memory cards and to load the disc. When I choose to load the disc it turns the screen to black for few seconds and then turn me back to the browser screen

Maybe you need to clean the lens.

Maybe you need to clean the lens. I highly doubt that's the problem becuase all my other games (both PS2 and PS1 games) are working great. But I guess I will do it anyway. Emmm... Prodius Deluxe isn't one of those rare PS1 games that don't work on the PS2 right?

I'll dig it out tomorrow and check it out. I have a Japanese PS2 and the PS1 Deluxe Pack, but I don't think I ever tested it before.

All I ever wanted is to own an original copy of Parodius Deluxe and play it on my PS2. Isn't that the American dream?

Sorry, just venting some inherent distrust against said corporation... I can't really help you with your plight, though. Got it for the Saturn meself.

As to my knowledge you can find a list of incompatable PS1 games that don't work on the PS2. Try google because i think it's because of the older the game they used different data compression.

It's not really so much the data compression, it's how much the games directly access the hardware (this essentially translates into how often it uses assembly code.) Since the PS2 isn't set up to interpret those commands (Sony never wants their game makers to use assembly), it causes imcompatabilities,
But yeah, Parodius works fine for me so it's definitely not that.

On a side note since we're talking about PS1 Games. I stumbled upon it today, Gamestop had a copy of Valkyrie Profile for like, twenty bux. But i didn't quite have the money so i got screwed into buying some game with gackt in it
