I like Castlevania. Though some of the recent games really should've spent some more time on the burner, I don't think I'll ever get tired of them. The only things that could make me hate Castlevania are:
A. If the games were just turned into plain-ass RPGs B. If, by some freak accident, development of the games were permanently tied to the team that made Devil May Cry 2 and Resident Evil Outbreak C. A combination of A and B

Ugh, I feel so embrassed because I haven't really gotten into the Castlevania series. The only one I was really hooked on was Bloodlines. Fond memories of that game when I was younger. Anyway, even though I haven't played any others, I definitely listened to the music which I must say is always stellar. For a cool music cameo of Castlevania, check out Keyboardmania 2nd mix or DDR Ultramix 3, as it has a song called, "Akumajo Dracula Medley" by KUKEIHAKURABU. It's a medly of four songs taken right from Castlevania and it's pretty good. The steps on heavy in Ultramix 3 are great too. EDIT: Link'd! d2.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/Keyboardmania%202nd%20Mix/20-akumajo_dracula_medley.mp3Also of note would be the recently released book by Maddox, "The Alphabet of Manliness", as Maddox makes quick mention of the games under his "W is for Winner" chapter. It goes under the lines of what the greatest things and he list: Castlevania I, III, IV, SOTN, and a GBA game I can't remember (my friend is borrowing the book now and she's in Vermont, so I can't get the specific on what was written yet).

B. If, by some freak accident, development of the games were permanently tied to the team that made Devil May Cry 2 and Resident Evil Outbreak Well the development currently is tied to Iga which honestly isn't any better than the team who made DMC2.

I burnt myself out pretty bad on Castlevania. Over the past year, I played through Super Castlevania IV, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, Curse of Darkness, and recently bought Dawn of Sorrow and played halfway through it in one sitting. I then rolled over and went to bed, and when I woke up, I just couldn't bring myself to pick it back up.
Anyway, I'm hoping it's just burnout, because I'll miss the series if I can't bring myself to play it again (I did the same thing with Final Fantasy games. I enjoyed them all immensely, but everytime I grab one of the discs, I just half-heartedly shrug and lean over to grab something else.)

I've already beaten DoS like three times since I've gotten it. I'm starting to get REAL sick of it, but it's not like I've got much else to play.

Glitches make that game incredibly more fine. Soma with alucard sword = win. Also, Speaking of which who made those kickass sprites for the top banner?

I'm sick and tired of the metroid-vanias and 3d-vanias. Why can't they just give me a tight 2d castlevania in the vein of Super Castlevania IV or Dracula X: Rondo of Blood for a chance, and on a TV system! It's not like they'd loose any money of it, for those who need their console games in 3d are probably playing the latest gta clone anyways, and diehard castlevania fans would surely buy it. I am aware of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, but that's not what I'm craving for.

Because people are spoiled. You cant make games like that anymore unless they have a gimmick to go along with it or some crazy ass new graphical style that usually looks like crap or twenty hours of useless cutscenes

The last one was Dawn of Sorrow on the DS, which is odd since Maddox doesn't seem like a stickler for games that short. [http://maddox.xmission.com/games.html] (list is a bit outdated, but still a good list). But hey, it's not like DoS wasn't nice anyway.

... usually, I am morally opposed to Maddox and I take everything he says with an ounce of pepper, but... I'll admit he's got pretty good taste in video games.

However, I still like Bloodlines on the Megadrive (Which I really should buy if there was a PAL release). man I used to always see copies of that kicking around for quite cheap- tell you what, when I get paid by this new job of mine I'll send you over a copy of it if I see it around again- deal? recently bought Dawn of Sorrow and played halfway through it in one sitting. I then rolled over and went to bed, and when I woke up, I just couldn't bring myself to pick it back up. I did the very same thing- I got it just before Christmas and played far, FAR too much of it. To be perfectly honest I found the game slightly underwhelming after all the hype and great reviews. The animé artwork really got on my goat and the castle design I thought was a bit poor. To be honest after I finished Symphony when it first came out I was really hoping for more of the Metroidvania style games- now here we are nearly 10 years later and I want a switch back to the challenging platformers of yore. A sexy Rhondo/Draculas Curse style game would blow my pants right off. My copy of Rhondo sits in a wee cherished alcove in my room- even if I did finish it entirely in one day

Something that irritates me is the metroidvania games have poor level design. Compared to regular cv titles that is.
