Kusoge are "shitty games". It's the very definition of the term. I have always seen it used as a pejorative from my experience in reading Japanese forums and never in a "b-movie" sense. In fact, there's even a Japanese wiki that judge the quality of various games to determine whether they're fit of the label. www23.atwiki.jp/ksgmatome/ wasn't there a debate about the usage of the word when the site initially began doing weekly kusoge articles? I thought we just decided it wasn't a super set in stone definition and up to the user's intent.

I was not a part of that discussion, but I've always seen the term kusoge used in a critical way and never positively. A video description on Nico Nico Douga that I viewed said that a specific game was a kusoge and the comments were filled with people saying " kusoge janai"(クソゲーじゃない, "it's not a shitty game"). The "Kusoge Matome" wiki have their own criteria of what makes a shitty game. www23.atwiki.jp/ksgmatome/pages/1.html

You've played it, right? As in, you've loaded up the game yourself and given it a serious play to see what you actually think beforehand, correct? You're not SERIOUSLY going to put it on a 'worst fighting games' list because it 'looks shitty', right? For content: Man, I miss Teras Kasi. Yeah, I know it was a bad game, not denying that, but it was literally my first Playstation game ever. I liked using Han Solo and abusing his pistol whip, which you did just by hitting Triangle. Over and over again. Hey, just for clarification, when we're talking the Mortal Kombat series, we're all talking everything between 4 and MKvsDC, right? :V Just making sure, here.

Why? I think it's a very good game. I played it few years ago and I enjoyed it a lot despite its age. Personally one of the best gore games I've ever played expecially since most gore fightings are ridiculous (like Mortal Kombat 3 with lots of bugs like "explode a body, see 2-3 heads and 5-6 arms"). Of course Playstation Magazine seems to have a different opinion: Implying that games like Tekken that are hyped so much by Official Playstation Magazine are not overrated. Speaking about irony. Hey, just for clarification, when we're talking the Mortal Kombat series, we're all talking everything between 4 and MKvsDC, right? :V Just making sure, here. You forgot 3/Ultimate/Trilogy. Unless you're implying that they were good games which actually they were not. And I have spend countless hours on these games as a MK maniac I was back then. Before MK9 only the first two MK can be considered as great games.

So I don't feel like sifting through 5 pages to see if it's been mentioned before, but did anyone notice that Yusuke is firing an actual gun in the 3D0 game instead of his trademark finger-based Spirit Gun?

The mk series is pretty much shit til mk9. I mean, the first couple are fun, but by no means would I ever call them awesome games.

The mk series is pretty much shit til mk9. I mean, the first couple are fun, but by no means would I ever call them awesome games. It's one of the most popular fighting games, however a lot of it has to do with all the gore. It's one of those games that everybody knows, and if you don't love it, you hate it. Mortal Kombat deception wasn't too bad, though it's not the best game they've had... MK was really only great to play in the arcade untill MK9 came out. And i think i may be the only human left alive that likes the MK story.

The story in mk9 is really great. probably about as good as a fighting game story can get.

I'm an MK fan and greatly love the series for way more than just gore, but at the same time I can understand that these games are in no way great or good, they're at the most decent and at the worst... Well, you've seen Bo Rai Cho. Also, I agree that looks should not be a basis for this category. I mean I find Silent Hill generally unpleasant to look at in this day and age, but I know it's a great game and still among my favorite to play as. Wasn't the term kusoge also meant to apply to games that were just borderline weird and not necessarily bad? In which case I could still see alotta the games mentioned here applying for that title.

The story in mk9 is really great. probably about as good as a fighting game story can get. Until they basically killed everyone, anyway. I'll be interested to see who they bring in for MK10 and what they do with them. I mean if they can make this asshole cool:

I thought they pretty much hinted that everyone was coming back as slaves for the bad guys. Well, atleast the characters that make the fun cut.

Kenshi and Rain will probably officially enter the story, as well. And if Rain does, I wouldn't be surprised if Daegon and Taven end up in, too. Hell, if we take arcade mode happenings to be fair game, Darrius could show up (since Johnny Cage went to Seido). Bo Rai Cho has been mentioned, as well. It only seems like the "Crime" characters, like Hsu Hao, Mavado, Kobra, and Kira are definite "No way." characters.

I don't mind a few of them dieing since it is MK and all, but c'mon... it was so stupid how they all just got their ass kicked in a few moments by one person. Here's hoping they don't kill Johnny Cage in MK10.

They might have to decide that Liu Kang survived, otherwise we might have to put up with Shujinko.
