From the article:
"In order to legally release a game for a Nintendo system a developer had first to obtain permission from Nintendo."
THANK GOD WIKIPEDIA DOES MY THINKING FOR ME
Seriously, there are so many problems with the damn site.
Oh, here's another good one:
"Sega did not fear a racist response from the US gaming public, as its history as an American company that made arcade games for U.S. servicemen stationed in Hawaii prevented it from being seen as a Japanese company no matter who owned it."
What, nobody ever worried about there being a backlash? I didn't know until I started getting into classic gaming that Service Games was initially American. Also important is the fact that Rosen's Service Games was the smaller partner in the merger with another Japanese company, as I understand it.
The general tone of the article is alright, but it's disappointing when people with very obvious agendas (the article isn't NPOV at all) try to comment on issues they know jack about.
Not mention Final Fight until nearly the end of the article? And...no Undercover Cops, for that matter. Sigh. Didn't see Birdo mentioned either. Nor Flea...

Though I'd point out that Birdo is mentioned twice in the Wiki article, and if you really wanted you could edit/add what you want to the article yourself. That's what wiki's for after all.

I can do without the headaches. Missed the Birdo references, thanks for correcting me. Got lost somewhere in the fuckton of references to obscure adventure titles

Yep. They mentioned Darkstalkers, just as I thought they would. Thought it was kinda odd when they mentioned the "pleasure dome" in one of those games catered to the "vice" of homosexuality. If the article is aiming for objectivity, then it really needs to revise that sentence.

Hmm, I don't mean to disagree with you Malroth I'm just wondering whether in the context of the game itself it's considered a vice (I haven't played the game so I have no idea) but that's totally uncalled for and unnecessary if it's a deliberate slight.

Hm. I suppose that is a possibility. If what you say is the case, then it should be specifically outlined within that sentence, just to be absolutely clear. Glad you brought that up.

I still say Poison is a girl. Not according to Capcom Classic Collection. Of course, Poison also somehow managed to avoid aging between Final Fight and Street Fighter 3, so it's not like Capcom's continuity is strong for the character.

I'm all for gay characters in video games. As the medium branches out, it's only fair that gays and lesbians recieve some nonstereotyped representation. It took nearly 80 years for mainstream movies to accept homosexuality, but I feel that the video game industry has it's own Midnight Cowboy coming in the near future.
(I did a 12 page paper on representation of homosexuality in film last semester, and I am actually kind of interested in following it up with one on homosexuality in video games. The only problem is most gay characters are simply played for comic relief, which is just kind of depressing when you think about it.)

I don't think that will change anytime soon considering women are still being looked as sex objects in most games.
