hg101.kontek.net/zombienation/zombienation.htmOne of those super weird Japanese games that somehow managed to be localized back in the day, where you play as a disembodied samurai head (a tengu mask in the FC version), saving the United States from a zombie menace. If nothing else, it reminds me how this site MAY need an article on Kabuki Quantum Fighter, though I'd need to sit down and puzzle out what the hell was going on in the Japanese verson, because I know the setup is a little different.

Did this one exist only on the NES? I'm almost sure I saw an arcade game similar to this on the MAME, unless I'm confusing my memories. Really weird game, anyway.

I feel kind of bad I can't spend as much time poking at grammar as I used to. But, for what it's worth:

Wait, this is by KAZe? The same company that made the Super Pinball and Digital Pinball series?

Wait, this is by KAZe? The same company that made the Super Pinball and Digital Pinball series? You got it, sir. I'm glad that Mike mentioned the Team Genpei/Namco connection...Norio Nakagata was a pretty prolific musician for Namco during the mid to late 80's, and even did the soundtrack for the movie and game "Mirai Ninja" (Cyber Ninja). As soon as I get some more time I need to cut back on my crankenstein article for the Genpei series, the story of that programming group is kinda interesting.

Actually, I have to confess that it's Kurt who elaborated on Nakagata's role as director and composer of ZN. I knew Nakagata did the GT soundtrack, but I'm not sure how directly relevant any parallels to Namco would be in this article. Then again, being that this site is usually about adding any interesting information ever on a game, I'm just chalking this one up to a royal brain fart on my end and thanking Kurt for the addition. I do wish there was more info on Nakagata than this, though. I feel as if his repertoire is somehow larger than what I see: vgmdb.net/artist/1590But I digress. This is probably one of the fruitier articles I've written, but as this game is ridiculous in absolutely every single category, I decided to get goofy. I have an unconditional love for this game, and I really can't explain why. All I know is that I've only played this on emulation; the American version is INCREDIBLY rare due to its relatively later release on the NES and complete lack of advertisement. I can only find auctions for the game's MANUAL on eBay, and those cost $20 each.

Actually, I kind of told you about that on IRC dude, like back in January ;p.
Dissed again....
Also I bought a copy of the Japanese version, and it's just about as inflated in price over there.

It was a random fun fact I discovered when rooting around with J-Wikipedia.

I DO actually remember you telling me about Mirai Ninja in relation to Nakagata and GT, so I apologize. It makes sense when you think about it... all three games have a giga-bizarre super-Japanese influence to them. I also think Nakagata has a fetish for giant disembodied heads; aside from the tengu/samurai, GT had those jabbering corpse heads in Hell and that Enma guy in Yomi, and MN has that creepy guy's head that appears before every boss.

hello the game center cx episode related to this game has recently been translated and in the episode, they say that the japanese version was originaly supposed to have the samurai head like the american version but they changed it to a tengu at the last moment because it was too gross
does anybody know if there is any truth behind that?
