I know most of you guys dislike the game since it's old and all, but back in my Street Fighter 2 CE arcade fighting days I remember the first time a friend of mine told me he saw what he called "a new Street Fighter" at an arcade nearby. I went there and couldn't believe what I saw, some guy was playing a fighting game with the 3 main characters of Art of Fighting!! Then he proceeded to take on the Fatal Fury team, to which I couldn't resist interrupting him and asking: Hey man, can you choose those guys too??? I was completely sold. I still play it today together with KOF 95, the best in the series to me. Me and my friends used to kill each other at the arcades, sometimes even making 6 vs 6 teams. After that it all went to hell, 96's graphics and music went downhill, and the feel of connecting hits, combos and overall physics too. 97 and 98 had a cool combo system, but the graphics and animation (somehow I think 95 has the best animation) didn't do it for me. 99 and on I just barely played, all the kyo clones and their plot seemed cheap, and the "strikers" thing... I never got into it. It suddenly seemed like we needed 20+ hit combos like in the Capcom "VS" series. The Street Fighter and Fatal Fury style combos were gone, together with the hard to connect and perform "Desperation attacks"(they all turned into "half-circle forward half-circle forward" moves for the sake of memory and user-friendliness).
But enough of that, we are all different. My point is that KOF 94 was a Fatal Fury spinoff. It has the physics of it, the combos, the special attacks and button layout. I still play it today just like I play SF Champion Edition or Samurai Shodown 2, or Fatal Fury Special.
One more thing!! I have a little bit of trivia for you, or actually just something to think about for now, because I want to know if someone is aware of this too about KOF 94:
What is the most destructive single move in the game?
Post your answer!!
PS: cool KOF article guys. Very nice team work.
