Excellent.
Last Samurai is almost a fantastic movie. It's a shame it was funded by the Hollywood machine. It's SO CLOSE to greatness, the blatantly tacked on happy ending (you even hear the music END and then loop after that final shot of the mountains) and a few other bits really drag down the all around fantastic ending (with Tom Cruise turning in what I think is probably his best performance ever) and great directing. Anyone who likes it should also check out Zwick's other war movies, Glory (unstoppable incredibleness in every way) and Courage Under Fire (great but not a masterpiece).

awesome.
Trouble with Last Samurai is, historically speaking, Cruise's character was essentially working for the bad guys. The ones that wanted feudalism to continue, the ones that didn't want equal rights for women,
samurai were badasses, but were tragically Idealistically incompatible with modern society.

My problem with Last Samurai was that, like all Tom Cruise movies, it was mostly about how cool Tom Cruise is.

That was the major reason I disliked it. The movie really was pushing an agenda I didn't agree with. Also, you hit the return key in the strangest of places.

Actually, If you we're a samurai in japan you would be more likely to serve under a female lord then a male one.
