You just need to click the inside of the tree hole where the bear was attacking to get your reward. Make sure you have the hand selected.
muteKi didn't say it but in the final area - you have to save ALL the time and do not overwrite your saves. That place is cruel and unfair. You'll know you're there when your boat breaks.

So, am I boned if I end up giving the needle to the gyspy? I just got the gold coin and bottle from the desert temple, but I'm not sure who takes it.
Protip: Never, EVER open the brass bottle you get from the desert temple. At least, if you can, I haven't found out how you're supposed to do it.

I notice you can interact with the people visiting the bakery the first time you enter - do you actually need to do anything with them?
Right now I feel like the Inn and the Forest are the only two ways for me to go, but, well, I cant leave either of them once I enter. Which one should I be able to do first?

Don't fuck with the black arts, and Aladdin is bullshit. Also, it takes place in China but they never mention that. Or the other djinn in the ring. Secondly, forgot to mention that but the owner of the boot is the hero of early Sierra game "The Wizard and the Princess." I'll have to find it, but it was mentioned in this strategy guide where they had an interview with Roberta Williams.

For some reason though I swear it was in one of the books I had back in the day.

Even more surreally, the whole bit with finding a dead guy in the desert like that got remade/revamped in the first chapter of KQ 7. Bob: You can't use the genie, as you've seen. But maybe you can get someone else to open the bottle for you, maybe someone you don't like.

Well, I've barely played the game for more than an hour, but from what I hear, both the desert and dark forest are terrible abominations of arbitrary guesswork and blind-dart-tossing in terms of being able to figure anything out. ... I'm scared.

That more than anything summarizes this game.

That is probably my favorite game over scene in the game, quite frankly.
Well, aside from the easter-egg scene from the floppy disk version at least!
For those of you just joining us, that screen's from after having gotten past everything at the starting areas -- the forest, the desert, the townspeople -- and reaching a new area. This is the second screen. When you do what he did in the screenshot, the death message, unlike the others which generally seem to try to be in some vague sense either funny or informative, just says that. Which is utterly hilarious to me after the ordeal of getting this far.
Once we're all done I'll probably link the death montage videos. But since knowing what to do generally involves knowing what NOT to do first in this game, I'll definitely wait.

OK, I've just got pretty far into the game, since the point since I put up that picture. I'll try not to spoil anything else, but here's a few random tips.
- Be very careful about what you use your food for. - Be prepared to make a split-second reaction somewhere down the line. - If a path seems like it'd be too much trouble to walk on, don't. - If Cedric seems eager for you to try a certain thing, watch the fuck out, because he's an evil little bastard.

My memory's not too good, what gave you the different Game Over image? I remember being freaked out when I played the PC version as a kid because it was a rotting skull with an animated worm coming out of the eye. On the NES it was a grave stone like the image above.
