So yeah, y'all with money should be able to get it tomorrow. Do tell me if the font looks any good, the early screenshots had the ugliest damn font. If you haven't heard of the series, go check the game out. Yeah, the game is 4 years old in its Japanese iteration only being recently translated, but it ROCKS!

I read about how the Super Robot game that didn't have any licensed mecha was being translated into english.
I'm hoping it does really well so that there's a chance it'll see a PAL release.

I bought this out of my need to support Atlus, though I also bought Summon Night last week. I have one of the Robot Wars games for the Saturn I got for like a buck but never played it.
Looking through the manual, there's an option for a one-handed mode.
...
Just what kind of game is this?

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I don't see what the point of OG is. I mean, the main draw of the series is using all those mechs you've seen in cartoons. And lately, the secondary draw has been the gorgeous animation in the PS2 games (which the first OG lacks). I understand why they can only bring OG over here, but it just seems sort of weird, is all.

Well, I'm running under the assumption that they're decent games and not just mere fan wankery.
I'm not sure yet though, Dead Rising kind of takes priority.

Well, some of the original mechs are still pretty cool, and the secondary draw can be reinstated if Atlus decides to release the upcoming ps2 remake of og1 and 2. Contributing to the hope of that happening is the main reason I'm buying this, which has to wait till later since I'm poor now. It will probably disappear by then, but oh well. Speaking of which, to go off topic a bit, HG101 could perhaps have a Super Robot Wars article. I can't begin to take on something that massive, and it would probably take some collaboration if it were to be done, but it's a possibility.

I asked Kurt about it long ago and he said pretty much no due to the immense size of the series.

They are generally decent games, but like most console tactics games, they are pretty much brain dead. They play more like Shining Force than, say, Final Fantasy Tactics, but you end up getting so over powered. Don't get me wrong, they are fun games.
I dunno, it's a bit like the good Fist of the North Star games (PSX and that fighting game). They are good because they adapt the series well. If you took out the Fist of the North Star, you'd have some pretty mediocre games. :/

i've sunk some time into it, and i can say that it was worth the purchase (for me, at least). the strategy part comes into play moreso with the customization of the mechs themselves, rather than the placement or units. Overall it's a fun little game, a strategy RPG that doesn't demand endless amounts of micromanaging...plus, it has midget robots.
