Portrait of Ruin looks a lot better at this point (the article containing pictures is a little way down the page - Famitsu doesn't let me directly link to it for some reason). Seems they revised the art style quite a bit - while it's still anime-styled, the overall quality of it is much improved over the artwork we saw around E3. Reminds me of the jump in quality from KOF 2001 and KOF 2002. What are your thoughts?

It's like the game is going to be sold exclusively through Shuttle-Japan.

Looks nice. This will probably be the next DS game I'll be getting, unless Phoenix Wright: Justice for All gets released before.

A. Although the fact that there hasn't been an old-school style CV game released in a while is beginning to irk me, I know I'll still get this, as it promises to have more originality that Dawn of Sorrow, and the graphics do look neat.
2. Does anyone even know when the hell Justice For All will get released overseas? The suspense is murdering me! The suspense will be on trial and be found guilty, even!

The art styke being improved over Dawn of Sorrows isnt saying much, I honestly think it was worse than the NES covers- at least they were amusing. Even as a game DOS was a tad dissapointing- felt like a Saturday morning retread of Aria of Sorrow.

i for one would like to see another old school CV game, one with levels...difficult levels. Make the graphics all purty and the controls tight, but still give me an excuse to make up new and obscene swear words.
The problem with the recent CV games is that they try too hard to be the next symphony. Symphony had flaws too, but it the two castles were so big that you could really just focus on all the minute secrets (shield rod + leather shield = awesome). Also, one of the villians in DOS reminds me of Elton John.

Alot of the new "Castletroids" lack the little nice touches. Like The secret boots, and items that really don't increase stat's but are cool nontheless and little touches (Like the portraits in symphony)
I still say if they got whoever did the badass strider two artwork for castlevania it would be awesome

October 2006 in Japan, TBA 2007 in the US, last time I checked.

If the Japanese DS version has English dialogue like the other release, I'll be all over it.

Like The secret boots, and items that really don't increase stat's but are cool nontheless and little touches (Like the portraits in symphony) Part of that is due to limitations in space compared to being on a CD though. Honestly though even the biggest 3D games with the most epic budgets don't have that much superfluous content on them.

There were so many little details to explore in SOTN it seemed you were always finding something new on every replay. It's also much larger than the GBA/DS games, which helps. You could tell SOTN was made by someone who loves games, and Castlevania in particular. Finally, the GBA/DS Castlevania games seem like they were made by a guy that's a mediocre designer/producer and was given the Castlevania series because someone high up at Konami either owes him something big time or wants to "make him shine!!" But in order to cover themselves told him, "but just try to make SOTN over and over." BUT HE CAN'T BECAUSE HE'S AWFUL. ;_; It's like playing the best ever fan hack of Super Mario Bros 3... at first you're like "omg this is amazing, this kid should get a job with nintendo!!!" Then you realize that all he did was take his favorite parts from the Mario 3 and rearrange them then redrew some of the blocks.
