OMG liek, DMC3 sucks because of the camera and the enemies are cheap! I realise you were trying to be ironic here, but ever played Ninja Gaiden on the xbox? One of the best action games ever my ass, the camera in it is abysmal. I think its pretty ok difficulty wise but that camera annoyed the sh*t out of me :\

Never played it, no X-box. The only games where I noticed the camera annoying me were God of War and Final Fantasy X-2. Normaly the static camera doesn't bother me, but in these games I really wanted to see where I was going but it wouldn't let me. (the Calm Lands in FFX2, argh!)

Ninja Gaiden is one of those games where you NEED to take control of the camera. Pretty much the entire game for me was spent rolling, blocking, recentering the camera, and then attacking. Once you get into the groove of it, it's ok.
The user controlled camera added in the Hurricane Pack didn't seem to help much though.

On the other hand, when I played Thief it was hell, stealth game in first person is such a bad idea: you can't see who come behind you, you can't see your exact location, your view is so limited. bad idea. Hey we fixed that in Thief 3! So the majority of you seem to not mind switching camera mode into first person and back again?

I think the thing about MGS3's camera wasn't about giving the player the best view but giving you a quick overview of your general surroundings as Snake himself could see them. Think of it: Stealth games with a huge overview spoil the fact that your character can't exactly see everything from a bird's eye view but has to lean on his/her eyes to accomplish something, and that kinda spoils the thrill of not knowing where an enemy might pop up next. The result? You actually have to look around!

I should normally be seeing what my character is seeing, not a shitty fixed camera view that obscures what's ahead of me.

The problem with MGS3's camera is that it only pointed "up". So if you were looking in any other direction, well, time to hit first person mode. Kind of a pain.
On another note, Samurai Warriors 2 actually has full camera control. Whee?

I never had many problems with Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. then again, I never let the enemies spread themselves out too far.
truth be told, I've rarely had much trouble with game cameras. No two games (from separate franchises) were meant to have cameras that opperate in the exact same way. So I don't pretentiously expect the camera in Sonic Adventure to operate as it does in Mario64 or Splinter Cell.

Yes, If they really wanted to let you play as an evil character in sonic adventure two they would let you play as the camera
