I've not actually played this very much, but I do recall a rather clever scene if you got a game over, which allowed you to continue. Still, the NES didn't have many adventure games, so this is worth looking into. www.hardcoregaming101.net/nightshade/nightshade.htm

I remember reading about this as a kid, but I've never found a copy to play. I'd like to give it a go sometime.

The Happy Video Game Nerd covered this one a while back.
Some minor typos: complimentary – should be complementary? a few various shades – a few shades or various shades

Also, that's not the Japanese cover. To my knowledge, this game never had a Japanese release.
I can't believe this was made by the same company that made the awful BTTF game for the NES in 1989.

The Happy Video Game Nerd covered this one a while back. That's how I heard about the game as well. Looked cool, NES adventure games are an interesting breed.

Oh my fucking god! This is my absolute favorite NES game, ever. So glad to see it getting some love on here.
-edit-
Think there was a typo on the title, though. It says (1986), when the game was released in 1992. It even got the cover and a full strategy guide in an issue of Nintendo Power.

Was always very, very intreagued by this game when I read about it back in Game Pro back in the day. It wasn't until the late 90s that I finally picked up a copy. Wanted to like it, but I was pretty put off by the combat in the game. Still excellent article.

I see the typo has not been fixed, so whoever is available to do so, please correct it. It was released early 1992, around January, so I hear.
