The GBC version of the game is garbage, if you ask me. The biggest downgrade being how they changed the music. Ugh. Having not experienced the original NES version, I'm not familiar with the soundtrack. I will say this though, the GBC soundtrack does appear to be fairly generic. Also, in the GBC version, that statue is found in a treasure chest, which you find if you wander around the world map for long enough. Not really hidden, just requires exploration. Definitely some interesting differences I've noticed so far. Am I glad I rebelled? Eh, yes and no. Especially since I'm the only one doing this.

I started up my game of Crystalis today and have managed to find the Tornado Bracelet! However, I was stuck for a good 30 minutes trying to figure out how to destroy the ice walls in the icy stretch of mountain to the south of Brynmaer. Here's a quick tip for those of you who are also stuck: Once you receive the insect flute from the dwarf village, go to the eastern side of the toxic forest until you find a black pit. Use the flute there to summon the boss, who will then give you the flame orb upon defeat. The flame orb will allow you to progress through the ice mountain! Thanks goes to Weasel for pointing this out to me. I will be streaming my play through of Crystalis this Friday, September 14th at 10:30 PM EST. Hopefully by that point I won't have beaten the game, but if I have, I'll start a new one for the stream audience.

As a heads-up, when you're going to the enemy base out in the middle of the lake (after you get to the village of Joel) make sure you've saved at least one magic ring, or a ton of power fruit because it's a long haul and you're going to need the magic to heal up before you fight Sabra the witch. I beat her first try at level 11, but it was close. Sotenga mentioned the broken statue puzzle on IRC - you get a broken statue from Sabra, which you'll have to fix to stop the whirlpools (to move forward, and to get a new spell from Asina). If you go back to the zombie town you find out you need a lamp from the lighthouse near Joel that can fix anything, and if you talk to the sages they say you need special glasses to get to the lighthouse. Get the glasses from Clark in the zombie town. Make sure you have an alarm flute first, then equip/use the glasses in the shed in Joel. Wake Kensu and take the Lamp. Then equip and use the lamp and the statue is fixed, and ready to use in the shrine in the lake to the west of Joel! You could attempt Joestar's contest, you may win because no one else dares to go near the GBC port. I'm curious too, however doing the NES game is enough for me. I don't want to subject myself to that port. I was gonna say he'll win by default ;p. If nobody beats it, just send me a screenshot of where you stopped and whoever gets the furthest will win. ;p

Ima bump this with a simple question: Where's the Water Bracelet? I feel I'm going a ways into the game without having found it at a point where I should have, but I can't say for sure. I'm somewhat convinced it's in Mt. Hydra, but I could be wrong. Also, I come a real far way into a tough dungeon only to find my level isn't high enough for the boss. Yet again.

It's in the basement of the Queen of Amazones' house. You need the change magic to get there (which you should have if you're at Mt. Hydra). BTW, anyone find anything besides the leather boots in that dungeon in the desert? One thing I dislike about the game is that there's a TON of dead space in the dungeons (and in the field to an extent). It's really easy to get lost trying to explore everything when there's no real point to it.

You can actually do a minor sequence break and get the Water Bracelet early by using Paralyze to stun the guard who normally tries to block the door. As long as you don't talk to anybody inside, you can walk right through the Queen of Amazones' house and loot the bracelet.

Interesting. I guess I wasn't trying hard enough . Unfortunately I also went and bought the Rune Shield there, and then noticed it was 3k cheaper at that town where the sages went (I forget the name). I can't remember if I said it here or not, but damn I hate the bracelets. The level 3 attacks aren't that good for the amount of magic used, and it's too easy to try charging in advance and get stuck wasting 20 or 40 points because of a fuck-up.

Spirasen linked an interesting looking fan remake of Crystalis in the IRC channel. It doesn't seem to be complete yet, but it looks promising!

Silly question, but where the heck is the windmill guard. I got the alarm flute and went to the windmill, but he's not there. Is he in one of the houses back in town or something?
EDIT: Nevermind - you have to go talk to Zebu in the cave to Brynmaer first. Only then will the guard appear.

If you get the sword bracelets, but don't want to worry about overcharging to Lv. 3 and using MP, just unequip the bracelet. Then you're down to Lv. 2.
Switching to a different sword's bracelet doesn't work out, because that only lets you charge to Lv. 1.

Due to technical difficulties, the stream had to end early, but it will resume tomorrow, September 15th at 10:30 PM. Here's that stream link again!Edit:I should note that Livestream Procaster didn't upload last night's stream for whatever reason, so if anyone is interested, I can put the raw stream video into a zip file and dump it on Dropbox. The quality won't be great but it's something.

Learn to use Barrier, especially on the bosses. It doesn't protect against enemies ramming you, but it protects against their projectiles - it's invaluable against the bosses in Goa, who like to spam shots. It's also a lot cheaper than healing if you can just block shots on an individual basis.
I never tried blocking the "curse" attacks though - can you do that?

Finished the game today! Man, the final area is super annoying. The only way to progress is to kill a shitload of robots that have an insane amount of health. They aren't even dangerous, since spamming level 1 attacks with the Thunder Sword and the Warrior Ring completely destroys them... they just take forever to kill!
The final boss is also kind of lame. It poses no challenge whatsoever, and it's a real bummer that you only get to use Crystalis for that one fight. It would have been way more awesome if the game gave you the Crystalis sword at the start of the final area and just let you annihilate everything.
