I know that it's futile, but my vote's for Ninja Kid / Pocky and Rocky.
I mean, everybody's played Crystalis already. Try something new!

I guess we have scrapped the whole obscure and difficult theme huh? The games are chosen at random, from a big list we created a year ago. And the only criteria for being on that list was that the game(s) had to be deep enough to play for a solid month. I'm actually kinda surprised, myself, though. I thought everyone had played Crystalis, too. But it's getting a lot of votes, so shows what I know! If it wins, I think you'll be surprised by how hard it can be.

I'll go for Pocky and Rocky as I don't own a copy of Crystalis!

Crystalis is going to win going away, but it's one of the few games I've beaten MULTIPLE times, so by the guidelines I'm not supposed to vote for it.
Looks like I have to throw a losing vote towards Ninja Kid/Pocky & Rocky.

You know what I was just going to start Crystalis, put my vote for that. First hint? Make sure you hold restart when you turn that off. I never played an actual NES game with saves before then, guess what I learned the hard way?

Cryzztalyzz edit: I would vote for P&R but that game is infuriating Vote for Ninja Kid, then . Personally I'm praying that those two win because it will be a good chance to talk about Yokai, and how Bandai re-branded and basically did a romhack on several games when they released them in the US, Ninja Kid being one of them (Dragon Power / Dragonball being another). I'm actually kinda surprised, myself, though. I thought everyone had played Crystalis, too. But it's getting a lot of votes, so shows what I know! If it wins, I think you'll be surprised by how hard it can be. 'Course, that could be because it's popular too... but yeah, it's a challenging and fun game, and there are some parts where teamwork by our forum members will come in handy. Either way, we've got some really good ones this month (I'm starting to feel bad for Military Madness...).

MM does interest me though one of my IM friends implied it was really long and boring. I dunno, I did like what I played of Advance Wars (really should get back into that!)

I could probably be talked into a replay of Crystalis. :) I have played it within the last 10 years, but I don't know about the last 5. I'd probably be done with it in just a couple days, though, haha. But I can talk about how cute dolphins in NES adventure games are for a month. :P
Plus it's the only game of those that I own.

Looking back on it, it should have been obvious, but most of us weren't any the wiser. But now, with hindsight, you say "Of COURSE Bandai wouldn't publish something that didn't originally have a license attached to it!"

As I own Crystalis, I'm going to pick that one.

Maternal fornicating Crystalis, I'll vote for the double-bill of Ninja Kid/Pocky & Rocky. Because I don't own any of them.
But if Crystalis wins, I'll be contrary and play the GBA version, lol.

You're supposed to hold down the system's reset button as you turn the system off for any NES game that has a battery, although if a cart ALWAYS loses the file, you probably do have a dead battery. Not holding down reset doesn't guarantee that you'll lose your file, but it does create that risk.

Not holding down reset doesn't guarantee that you'll lose your file, but it does create that risk. Absolutely right. The only way to know for sure is to open the cartridge up and bust out the ol' multimeter. Although lemme say this: I have close to 20 NES carts with batteries in em (just a guess) and not ONE has a truly dead battery. I'm not that lucky, so I'm guessing that the batteries can potentially last a very very long time. I've also never had a game get deleted because I failed to hold down reset when I powered off. I've asked the gurus at NesDev about this, and the general consensus was that holding down reset is an unnecessary precaution.
